Somehow this book reminds me of Beauty and the Beast, and The Selection :)

Ava (view spoiler)[ Poor girl :( I kinda began to like her and now she's dead. I think what Kate sees (at the ending chapter 7) is just an illusion of Ava. She can't return from the dead. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[There are a certain point which is confusing, how her mom died for her, given her her life, and yet she's living. And the fact that everyone ever appeared in her life are gods and goddess. Still it is interesting enough, I might go for the second book. XD (hide spoiler)]

Glad you loved it :D I would have rated it 4 stars too, but because of the points you mentioned. It was great, though.

The mother took on mortal form to raise her, so after she gave up her life, she resumed her immortal form.

I think I will read soon :)

I rather like book 1.5, it is still a fast read, and I really love Kate for being such strong young lady. I better put below as spoilers.

(view spoiler)[The highlight of this book to me, is that it focuses on the friendship between James and Kate. I wasn't sure where they would go after she became the Queen of Underworld, and I wasn't sure of James' personality after he reveal himself as a God - there is a part of me expect him being darker and more serious, but there James is, familiar and still friendly.

And of course, I love how Henry is protective of Kate and how he's willing to change his way for his new queen (even though, yes, it is cliche how bad boys (God) are willing to change for love).

Kate, her stubbornness is something to look at, she even go to a length to challenge Walter, I can see this may play out to be a bigger plot later of the series.
