If you're in the mood to be entertained and not challenged in any way, this is a good romantic comedy. It spins the usual plot of girl meets boy, they don't click, and then they click -- but gives it a fresh spin. The acting is good, not great. The laughs are mild. It is gently satiric. One criticism having to do with Jennifer Aniston's and Ben Afflecks story line: the conclusion is trite and not particularly believable.

I rented it and put it on tonight but my friend wanted to turn it off after 20 minutes. I would have been willing to watch it all the way through, but she had had enough. Instead, she pulled Chinatown out of the collection and we watched that instead. That movie continues to break my heart and astonish me.
It is on my "to rent" list. Not that excited about it, but I do like several of the actors in it. Good to know I should not expect an "award winner" here. I will probably enjoy it more than I would have.

I was ready to veg out with it; I guess my friend wasn't. I still have it here, I might watch the rest of it tonight.
Hey Elaine,I watched the rest of this movie this evening. I'm glad I watched it. I'm interested in films that try to explore the contemporary relationship landscape. I'm not sure I think of this as a romantic comedy, for so much of the narrative just makes me sad that we fail so miserably to communicate successfully.
One thing I think is funny is to compare the conception of "waiting for a guy" between this film and your average Jane Austen film...
But mostly I just wish Drew Barrymore would call me back...
:)
I made it through the movie but didn't like it. Creepy desperate people especially the main female with the stalker complex. Reality Bites is a better singles movie.

Teri... I agree completely! I hated this movie! The characters were just about ALL whiny and needy and did not make women, in general, look very good at all. The best thing about this flick was Drew Barrymore. She is one of my favorite actors.
I honestly didn't find much comedy in it whatsoever; I found every storyline much too depressing! Needy woman, cheating husbands with needy wives...woo hoo that's just hilarious!
Just didn't relate to it, in the least...don't get me wrong. That's a good thing!
