I'm listening to Stephen Fry on Audible reading Harry Potter- excellent - makes the hour commute to work more bearable.

Happy New Year All!! Hope you all had a great holiday weekend. I am currently reading Playing with her Heart by Lauren Blakely. I got in a set on My Kindle with 5 others book. I was hoping to the finish that set before the new year started.
I started stage new year off with a few classics...
The Odyssey (rereading since I want to try Ulysses this year)
Last of the Mohicans
Our Mutual Friend
Dance to the Music of Time (book one)
I'm probably going to have to break it up with something light, but I don't know what yet.

Renee, I'm planning on reading The Odyssey once I'm a bit more settled into the year! I'd love to know what you think about it!
This is a reread for me. After about 30 years. I read it in high school and again in college. I remember really loving it. I'm a few chapters in so far and thoroughly enjoying myself. There are so many characters and elements which have become part of our popular culture.

Have the men had enough? by Margaret Forster. So far a great book - a story of a family coping with a relative with dementia.
Finally gotten round to starting The Price of Salt. I watched the movie adaptation, Carol, earlier in the week and adored it! (I recommend everyone should watch it!)
So excited to see what the book is like.

So I am currently reading
for a challenge in another group I am part of and I am not sure why but I feel like I am struggling with the book. I was actually looking forward to reading the book after seeing the TV series. But now I find myself doing everything else but reading the book. I am not sure if it is the size of the book or what. Has anyone else read the book? Without giving away the plot, what are your thoughts on the book/series? Did anyone else struggle with it?

PinkieFairyI read the whole Outlander series. The first book is a little slow. However, by the end...you're hooked.
The second book is a little rough. The typos are bad enough to be very annoying and there are several places where the suthor changes view point/perspective in inappropriate places--once, she did it three times in one paragraph!
But, again, there is a "however"....I was so hooked on the story line I pushed through those things in order to follow the story. It's just that good.
By the end of the series I was so in love with all the characters that I ACTUALLY cried when the last book ended.
It's actually a great series.
The Last Day of a Condemned Man by Victor Hugo. It is a short story, but very powerful. This is a first person account of a man that was sentenced to death by having his head cut off. It is written in the 1820's but could be relevant to today. This story will challenge your views on capital punishment, pro or con.

The Collected Tales of Edgar Allan Poe - this one's going to take me a while, I can feel it! Having a lot of fun so far though; I've loved discovering the other sides to Poe in addition to his horror writing.
HAPPY NATIONAL READING DAY!!!!!!!!
I am still struggling with
so last night I decided to take a break and started reading
. After Haze I will go back to Outlander. Maybe by doing that it will not be os hard for me to get through Outlander.

I'm reading and listening to books on audible while I work! It's the best way to get double the books every day! Just finished The Magicians trilogy by Grossman...absolutely amazing a must read for a fantasy fanatic! I've almost finished the Magicians guild series by Canavan and have started the Max Gladstone & Terry Brooks books as well...lots of good reads ahead!!
I'm currently reading Breaking Love by M.J. Summers. I'm honestly not liking it too much as it's a romance novel and that usually isn't a genre I read but it was recommended to me by a friend so I'm trying to stick with it.
I'm about a quarter of the way through Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. So many readers seemed to love it but so far, I think it's a bit tedious and meh. Hoping it's just a slow start.
Still reading my science(y) book Wizards, Aliens, and Starships: Physics and Math in Fantasy and Science Fiction I'm 53% through it. Yay! Been reading it more frequently these last few days instead of by the chapter once every 2 or 3 weeks. Within about a week or two I went from being only about 11% or 12% to being 5% through. I have also gotten more "into" it than before. Despite not knowing basic high school physics or calculus.
I'm reading my third book this year : Frightening light. I was reading this as we learnt about this topic in Physics class, I have a couple pages left. Next I will be reading "Violent Volcanoes" as we studied that in Geography class ;)
Just finished Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore. It wasn't a perfect book but it was charming and had some clever bits. And who doesn't like a book about a bookstore? Looking forward to starting Susan Hill's The Soul of Discretion. The Simon Serrailler mystery series is a favorite.
Lucy wrote: "Currently reading The Maze Runner because I loved the movies but I haven't read the books :'|"I like the first movie, haven't seen the second one yet. I should probably read the books as well.
I am currently reading Me Before You. Saw the clip for the movie and decided to read the book because the movie looks so good. And so far the book it very good.
Lucy wrote: "Currently reading The Maze Runner because I loved the movies but I haven't read the books :'|"Hope you are enjoying The Maze Runner, Lucy.
Unfortunately the books didn't work out all that well for me. I liked the movies better. (The third book was (really) good/emtional though. I'm very curious about the movie adaption!)
I'm currently re-reading Cinder for the group read and (very) slowly making my way through Oliver Twist.
I'm reading The Lake House by Kate Morton. The pace is slower than a typical mystery but I'm about half-way through and so far it's very good. The story unwinds slowly and alternates between 1933 and 2003. It's hard to put down because you want to know what happened.
I'm reading Cate woods - Just haven't met you yet - on kindle, and Pauline lawless - meet and delete - on paperback
Finished my text book, Wizards, Aliens, and Starships: Physics and Math in Fantasy and Science Fiction my 1st of the year. Now I'm "on Track" (for now)Next up is.... Time Out of Mind
I am so happy! I just downloaded the complete Father Brown mystery series by G.K. Chesterton. It was only .99 cents.
I'm reading The House on Cold Hill. Made the mistake of reading some just before I went to bed last night and had to turn the lights on (which I never normally do!)
Gavin- What do you think so far? I just finished Anne of Green Gables, but am moving on to Avenlea, Island and Windy Pooulars soon!
