I didn't really like the Mr. X parts either, but skipping will make a difference if you plan to read any of the future books. The reader does have to understand the lessers and how the lessening society works for certain things that happen in the plot between them and the Brotherhood to make sense.

I figured as much and though those parts aren't very interesting I've not been skimming. I hate trying to later figure something out I should have paid attention to in the first place.

The first time I read this book I fell in love with Wrath and the story,but rereading a couple things popped out at me that I didn't like ....(view spoiler)[ I didn't like the way wrath treated Marrissa,she did nothing wrong he treated her like crap and I kinda felt bad for her. I also didn't like the pacing of wrath and Beth's relationship. It went from I can't keep you to marry me,pretty quickly. (hide spoiler)]
