I haven't read it and all I have to go on is that there's a brother and sister and they hear things in the walls.

I've checked and she doesn't think that The Taking was it. The title doesn't sound familiar.

Could it be Broken Harbour? There are two children in it, although they're not the main characters. The book is about their parents hearing strange noises in the walls of their house.

I think this is Midnight Voices by John Saul.Midnight Voices

Basically the children hear voices in the wall after moving into an old building with their mom and new step-father. It's a horror novice and I feel like he is very close to Dean Koontz' good years.
