Lyna Forge (lynaforge) | 37 comments Hi, I need a beta reader/proof reader for my novel. It's been proofread by an editor, and I'm less than impressed with the results, so I do need someone else to take a look at it. I've fixed all I can but... also, I wanted to get some feedback on the books pace and content.

I'd greatly appreciate any help you can offer.

Johann lives underground in the colony of his birth. Before his 20th birthday, his grandfather, the head of his household, unexpectedly passes away. His family scrambles to decide who the estate belongs to, expecting that it will go to Johann's father, who is the next in line to get it. In fact, the estate has been willed to Johann himself.

Grace | 1 comments Sounds interesting. Can you tell me more about the story?

Lyna Forge (lynaforge) | 37 comments sorry, didn't see this here. It's sci-fi fantasy but not heavy on the sci-fi, as it is more about people.

Johann lives underground with his broken family. He's considered the black sheep, though he hadn't sought that title out. if you want to try a chapter, you can check it out on wattpad or amazon. It's called From Johann to Tannenbaum.

Julia (juliahoover) | 33 comments Ashlyn, I have a historical fantasy w/some sci fi in it that also needs beta work - would you be interested in an exchange of some kind? Chapter for chapter or something?

Let me know - my email (which I get more frequently than this) is julia.hoover1@yahoo.com; the book in question has the prologue and first 6 chapters on a blog w/word press: https://juliahoover1.wordpress.com.

Happy to try to trade, if timing works out!
Julie Hoover

Lyna Forge (lynaforge) | 37 comments Hi, I can take a stab at it, but mine is already complete. it doesn't seem fair that I trade it for your 6 chapters :-/

Julia (juliahoover) | 33 comments No! I totally agree!
Hang on...

message 7: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliahoover) | 33 comments Mine IS complete. I just haven't posted the entire thing on a blog because I am concerned about property rights, etc. I thought maybe there was a misunderstanding there... No, it's 105,000 words and approx 23 chapters. Just not all available online. But whatever you like, if you are interested, just let me know.

Julie

Julia (juliahoover) | 33 comments I've decided to put up excerpts from later chapters so that people can get a feel for it, but I'm not going to post the entire text. Ex: I just posted an excerpt from Ch 7. Anyway... back to combing through.

Craig Birchfield | 2 comments Would you be interested in a Beta exchange? I have a 60K word light humorous SF fantasy about an old man (Paleontologist)a 10 year old boy and a small very fast dinosaur. Smuggled into the USA with embezzled cash, Dr. Henry Fossil must keep the dinosaur (nicknamed Fido) on the QT until he can replace the funds, until she gets loose in the town and pandemonium erupts. Grumpy Old Men meets Jurassic Park. Let me know if you are interested. Craig the Professor

Lyna Forge (lynaforge) | 37 comments I personally don't like beta exchanges as if you have to be honest about one piece, the author might retaliate. If you don't mind a 3 way exchange or a 4 way, where we don't beta 'each others' pieces directly. then sure.

JE | 11 comments Ashlyn, I'll beta read for you if you'd like. Coincidentally, I had just started reading In Liam's Wake.
If you would like me to do it, you could send it to jelaine115@gmail.com. Doc format is best, if you can.

Lyna Forge (lynaforge) | 37 comments wow JE, talk about good luck. I need a beta for a different book, though. Could you please get back to me once you've finished Liam. I'd rather see how the other book reads for you once you've read one book. It's a standalone so I really want to see a reader response as someone who hasn't read the other book. but now with this opportunity, it would be good to see how it reads for a reader familiar with the Colony.

Could you please message me when you're ready for the other book?

JE | 11 comments Will do, and hopefully someone who hasn't read Liam will offer to read Johann as well
