The ending - wasn't something left out? (MAJOR spoilers for both the book and movie)

His hateful activism will be defeated by the inevitable abandonment of antiquated dogma. It's kind of ironically mirrored in Ender's Game by the actions of the protagonist. OSC has stated he does not want a Speaker for the Dead movie.
I walked away from the movie feeling as if the "sorrowful moral question" had been put out there, only in a not so in your face way.

B: You think the projected CGI budget for the piggies might have something to do with that?
We just did a podcast discussing this movie and how it compared to the book. Lots of spoilers, but if you read the book you will be enjoy it I think. http://www.onefootover.com/fairly-cri...

Didn't say I did or not, just said what the author said in an interview when confronted with that question.

That said, unfortunately, American audiences like black & white/good vs evil story lines and interpretations of the world. Ending with a sorrowful moral question makes excellent literature, but movie producers probably don't think it sells American sci-fi movies. We like closure, not ambiguity.
I haven't seen the movie yet (and likely will not due to Card's ferocious radical right-wing politics and homophobia), so I can't speculate on whether that ending was implied or not. It saddens me to boycott the film, as I loved this series, but read it before I knew about what kind of hateful activism I'd be supporting if I bought Card's works.
