Chapter 2
(view spoiler)[In my edition, there's a preface by the author, in which she says that the idea for the book came to her from the Greek myth, where boys and girls where sent every year to the Labyrinth where the Minotaur lives. What kind of shocked me in the book was that the citizens of the Districts are sent by their own government to fight others from Panem.
Also, I really like that the relationship between Gale and Katniss isn't that kitschy that certainly will develop to a romantic one at some point, but just a friendship.
And about the Games - I did know that Prim would be chosen and that Katniss would volunteer from the synopsis I've read before. Can't wait to see the Games themselves. (hide spoiler)]

I love the fact that for once the film was so close to the book. I loved the ending and all the emotions going on. I wonder if katniss can get back to her old life after something like that. Just starting. This is my third time rereading the series but I haven't done so for three years so I'm excited to return to this world. Also, it's my first time trying out the audio.

Much of the first two chapters are introducing the reader to the rules in place concerning the reaping and the games, and the unfairness of life in the districts. The writing is so straight-forward and it feels like you're flying through the story, but not in an unlikable way.

I still teared up when Katniess volunteered as tribute in place of Prim. No matter how many times I read this book or watch the films this part always gets me!

Peta's father visited Katniss and I thought this was such a sweet touch. He said little, but what is there to say when a child is going to be forced to fight for her life in a few short days? (hide spoiler)]
