Series: The Zombie West Trilogy #2
Shelf: 1st, 2nd or 3rd
Read: 2 Dec
Rating: 3.5 stars
Review:
... zombies, uglies, nutters, undead, walkers, unfortunates ... Of all the terms, "munchers" did get straight to the point.Red's group has been hold up in the fort for several months now and supplies are dwindling. In order for the group to survive, she must venture outside of the walls to find food supplies. The zombies are surrounding the fort and there's no guarantee she'll find what she's looking for, but without the supplies there's no hope for the group.
"Pretend to be brave until you can be."While on the hunt, Trace and Red are separated and fear the worst. But, they each stay on mission and do what's necessary to survive.
I'm not normally drawn to westerns, but when I found Angela Scott's first book, WANTED: Dead or Undead, free on Amazon I grabbed it. I was surprised by how much I liked it. Survivor Roundup gives readers the same gore and tension found in book 1. And, it moves Red's story along by showing how she's changed from the loner to the protector. I look forward to reading the conclusion, Dead Plains.

Review: Hunter has came back to his coven after being away for 10 years. And stepping back into his role of the sentenal of Willow coven was a lot easier then he thought would be. He never thought he would be back, never thought he's be given the call to come back but there's a dark coven trying to get in a destroy his, a coven that is lead by someone Hunter is way to familer with and after certain events things get more then personal.
Tatyana is the baby of the family, a family of 13 her closest sibling is her brother a witch who at the time she knows nothing of this. This world of witches and magic comes crashing to her the night her car breaks down and she has to walk in the freezing cold. Little did she know at the time that her whole life as she knew it was going to change.
This book was alright, I was kind of hoping for more, the chemistry was good between the characters but they kind of annoyed me at the same time.

Series: Frostbite

Review
Frostbite is the second installment in the Vampire Academy. Rose is back in training to become a guardian working overtime to catch up in her classes as well as her physical training. Lissa has been spending all her time with Christian as their budding relationship takes it to a new level. While Lissa is busy Rose is feeling a little jealous missing her best friend and not really having anyone she can vent to. She also can’t deny she’s in love with Dimitri but it’s clear to him that nothing will happen. When Rose heads off with Dimitri to be tested what should have been a just a test turns out to be anything but. The pair arrive to find several Guardians as well as Moroi murdered by Strigoi but it’s clear from searching the crime scene that they are working with humans which is unheard of.
After hearing about the brutal attack the school decides to send the Royals, as well as their families off to a protected ski resort in Idaho for the break. What should be a relaxing vacation for the students is anything but for Rose she’s been torn in all directions by guys who want her but the one she can’t have. At least she gets along with Mason while Adrian is determined to win her over with his charm. Toss in Rose’s mother who she hasn't seen in ages it’s going to be anything but relaxing. When another family is attacked hitting close to home some of the novice’s head off to get the Strigoi since the Guardians aren’t doing anything. Rose will have to find them before they are found by the Strigoi.
I think Rose is a great character while she has her flaws but I think that’s what I like about her. She’s easy to connect with you can’t help cheering her on through the whole book. I like Lissa she’s a perfect match for Rose they complement each other and I can’t wait to see what she can do with her powers. As much as I like Mason he’s just not perfect for Rose like Dimitri is and I keep hoping one day he’ll see the light and follow his heart. We also got a taste of Tasha who is Christians Aunt she’s an interesting character that I hope to see more of in future books. I think she has the potential to change the way they fight the Strigoi with her ideas but I could be way off.
For December my goal is to read the rest of the series. Frostbite had big expectation after the first one and I was nervous it wouldn't be able to meet them. I was instantly drawn into Rose’s story it’s fast paced from start to finish. Frostbite is an intricate story that mixes action, emotions, romance, and enough suspense to leave you guessing till the end. The characters are easy to relate to and engaging you can’t help falling for them. I was on the sparkly vampire band wagon for a long time but Vampire Academy is quickly stealing my heart. I love the concept for the two types of vampires as well as the Dhampir I think the author has taken the vampire concept and put her own unique twist which I love. It's one of my new favorite series that I couldn't put down. I can’t wait to start the next one because I’m dying to know what’s going to happen next to Rose and Dimitri. I have all of them loaded on my kindle ready to go.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the series, Mandy. I hated waiting for each installment of that series. I was dying to know what would happen next.

Review: Book 3 of the Drew + Fable series, but unlike the previous 2 this book focus is Fables best friend and co-worker Jen and their boss Colin. But have no fear Fable and Drew are still around.
Jen has been in love with Colin for as long as she can remember. He's been there for her looking out for her and protecting her. She's fallen on some pretty hard times in the past and it's been him who's picked her back up, rescued her. Moved her into his home, given her a job at his restaurant. But even still there are things that he doesn't know about, things that she doesn't want him or anyone to know about. So that's why she needs to go. She needs to walk away and not look back because her past is catching up and she's not ready to face it, she doesn't want to ever face it. But can she walk away from Colin and her feelings for him? Can she walk away without him ever knowing those feelings?
Colin needs Jen in his life, more then she even realizes. To her she's just an obligation, because he was best friends with her brother Danny, but Danny has been dead for a few years now. He doesn't just look out for her because of him and her family, he does it because she he's in love with her. She's the one thing he wants so badly but doesn't try to have because he's to afraid. He doesn't want to let her down more then he thinks he has already. He doesn't want to let her down like he feels he did Danny and her parents. And now she's leaving, can he just let her walk away and out of his life with out him ever confessing how he really feels?
I enjoyed these two, the chemistry between the them is obvious. The love story is frustrating but that's just because you want to shake them and tell them to speak up and tell the other the truth about so many things. Frustrating but great.
Another smash hit from Monica Murphy. I can't not wait to read the next book. And well anything else by this wonderful lady!!

Review:
This is the first book in the Lords of Deliverance series which ties in with the Demonica series. The book introduces us to the four Horsemen of the Apocalyse: Reseph (Pestilence), Ares (War), Limos (Famine) and Thanatos (Death). Each has a seal which keeps them from turning evil. Reseph's seal is broken and the others try to prevent the end of days. Ares becomes involved with Cara, a human with special talents. She can heal animals with her touch. She comes into Ares' radar after healing and bonding with a hellhound (that she has named Hal). The storyline is good and the characters are strong but I did not enjoy it as much as the Demonica series. I appreciated that those characters were intertwined with this story. I missed the family element even though the four are siblings. This did not make the 5 star list for me.

Tattoo artist Riley was attacked by vampires Valerian and Victorian Arcos at the end of the first book. Their venom has changed her DNA and increased her new supernatural tendencies. There is lots of steamy sex with hunky Eli but it starts to get a little redundant. I enjoy the Savannah and Charleston settings, the Gullah people and the Dupre family. I found Riley to be rather irritating in this book. I wanted to shake her and tell her to share her dreams with Eli. Just an OK read for me.

Juliette has been locked up three years after she accidently killed a little boy with her touch. She had had no idea her touch was deadly until that fateful day that changed everything. She’s been locked inside a cement box by herself for almost a year having no one to talk to before that she was locked inside the asylum where she’s been tested. When out of the blue she’s joined by a stranger the first human she’s seen in so long. After what happened with the boy she attempts to stay far away from the stranger.
While she’s been locked up the world around her is falling apart. Animals are dying as well as people, food is short and the rebels are lurking outside the gates. Juliette’s cellmate is determined to learn more about her and she can’t deny she’s curious to learn more about him. When the leader of the zone a young man offers her freedom she learns that he’s really a guard in the military but that’s not why he’s really there. Adam has been in love with Juliette since they were little and when she was taken he set out to find her. Juliette can't deny she loved Adam because he was the only who treated her like a human. The pair will risks their lives to escape the hands of the man in charge who wants to turn her into a weapon. What they find outside may not be any better and the pair will be pushed to the limits.
When I landed on B.O. Railroad in Monopoly I was nervous since my partner in crime picked this one out for me. I love the cover and the synopsis is captivating but that’s not enough. If not reading for a challenge I would have DNF this book long before making it past the second chapter. The first 40% was a struggle the main character drove me nuts. She has this internal monologue that drove me insane. As much as I wanted to connect with her I just wasn’t able to. I liked Adam after I learned he was there for Juliette he’s an honest goo guy. How could I not like him I think every girl would want an Adam. After the first 50% or so the internal monologue started to drop away and I was able to really start to connect with Juliette. Shatter Me is a tough read but if you can get past more than half of the book it’s becomes hard to put down. I stayed up late reading just to see how it would end. I honestly didn’t think after reading the first half I would like the book but the last half redeemed the book. I would warn anyone reading Shatter Me to not give up and stick with the story it’s worth it in the end. I’m not sure if I want to continue the series but I’m curious to see what will happen to Juliette and Adam.
Good review, Mandy. It was hard getting passed Juliette's Go, Teammies, Go! I'm more than 1/2 way thru my 5-star book. Should be done and have my review up by Sat, at the latest.

Thoughts:
I read the first Elder Races book, Dragon Bound, in January, and quite liked it. Loved the blurb about Twinks' book in the back, and picked this up, but just haven't gotten around to reading it (so many books...). WAIT, that was Jan. 2012...it's gotten quite dusty!
Regardless of the wait, I really, really enjoyed this.
During the rule of her murderous Dark Fae uncle, Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle found sanctuary among the Wyr in New York. Her ethereal beauty and sparkling personality won the hearts of the public, but after her uncle's death, there are those who don't want to see her ascend to the throne.
Yep, they really don't. Assassination attempts follow one after the other, and Ninae, her true name~gotta stop with the "Tricks" stuff cause~ is trying to deal with it alone, standing on her own two feet without over-relying on the weyr, while occasionally relying too much on vodka and cheetohs.
But, the weyr is filled with alpha male types, who've been protecting Tricks/Ninae for a couple hundred years. Obviously, her decision to do it alone is not going to sit well. Enter...
Able to wield thunder and lightning, Wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the Wyr's best weapons. And he's sent to protect Tricks when she's almost assassinated in Chicago.
And when you've got one hulking, sexy alpha male, and a smart, beautiful, albeit mouthy, lady that someone is determined to kill...you know what happens:
Soon, both Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them—a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds.
It's a fun PNR, lots of action, humor and some very hot spots. Lots more problems get thrown their way, and this sets the scene nicely for the next couple in the series (which I can't wait to read, and this time, won't wait almost two years to get to!)

I picked this up as a freebie, and actually got the first three books. I thought it sounded interesting, but then it's been sitting in the TBR pile for quite awhile. One of the joys of BINGO is it motivates me to get those read, too!
The heroine is Rylee, a tracker. Once she decides to track someone, she can always find them, but she only tracks missing children. Her own sister went missing when they were both children, in fact, that was the catalyst for her tracking ability to develop. Unfortunately, one very persistent FBI man is certain she killed her own sister, and has been following for the decade or so since then.
But then he gets a little too close to one of her cases, and somehow moves from observer to involved, though not really by his own choice, and things heat up.
Priceless has a strong story line, and interesting characters that are well developed. There are a couple "rough" spots, but nothing that made me stop and say "Wait just a minute..." I enjoyed the read, and will read the next in the series, some time!
Mandy wrote: "So clearly you read book two so it's worth continuing?"Yeah, I've read 1, 1.5 & 2 and I've liked them all, aside from the love triangle possibility. The strikeouts are at their worst in the 1st, which was good to see b/c they my biggest distraction in the first book. The short gave a good look at Warner. The author does a good job of creating a character (Warner) you love to hate and hate to love.
Glad you liked Priceless, Judithe. They're all Amazon Prime free borrows, so I'm sure I'll read the rest eventually as well.
Finished my 5-star read; off to write my review. Back with it shortly.

Review:
In this world that Neal has created, the conflict over Pro-Life and Pro-Choice lead to the Second Civil War, known as the Heartland War. To end the war, constitutional amendments, known as The Bill of Life, were passed.
The Bill states "... that human life may not be touched from the moment of conception until a child reaches the age of thirteen. However, between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, a parent may choose to retroactively "abort" a child ... on the condition that the child's life doesn't "technically" end. The process by which a child is both terminated and yet kept alive is called "unwinding"."Additionally, there's a Storking Initiative, which is like an acceptable ding-dong-ditch version of leaving your unwanted infant on someone's doorstep. Should the DDD'ed family spot you, you must take the baby back. Get away without being seen and the family must take on the responsibility of raising the child.
Unwinding follows three teens, Connor, Risa and Lev. While each of the children share few commonalities prior to their chance meeting, they are all scheduled for unwinding. This unites them as they strive to stay alive until they are eighteen.
Every Unwind has a story you don't want to know.Along the way, the trio meet many different Unwinds. Each of them has a sad and pitiful story to tell. Some feel they were chosen, others hope that "... some part of [themselves] will go on to greatness somewhere in the world. [They'd] rather be partly great than entirely useless." But, no one really knows what to expect.
The harvesting of Unwinds is a secret medical ritual that stays within the walls of each harvesting clinic in the nation. The freakiest part of the story, for me, was the Unwinding process. The author does an amazing job of bringing the reader along on the terrifying process in which 99.44% of an Unwind must be kept alive for transplantation. I look forward to continuing the series.

Review: I just finished this book a few moments ago. So a real review is going to hard to do. Because whenever I read John Greens books I always find I am at a loss of what to say.
Miles is searching for "the great beyond" he's a nobody with. He loves biographies and memorizes famous last words. He hopes going away to boarding school will help him in his search, this self discovery.
Alaska, is a very typical John Green character, she kind of reminded me of Margo from Green's book Paper Towns. She's not shy a tell it like it is kind of girl, who seems to have a dark place inside of her. "Y'all smoke to enjoy it.I smoke to die"
Another book to make you laugh, make you cry and make you question make you think and even reexamine yourself. Mr. Green has yet again strengthened my author crush I have on him.
I just received
this week. I will read it for the Supernatural shelf. Still thinking about Reader's Choice.

Shadow Kiss is the third installment in the Vampire Academy series. Rose has survived her first Strigoi kill but it’s still haunting her. The Guardians will spend the next six weeks guarding their own Moroi while their Dhampir instructors will attack them testing them to see how they do against a potential Strigoi attack. When the Dphampir are assigned to their Moroi Rose assumes she will be given Lissa but instead is assigned Christian. However upset with the whole decision she’s determine to prove herself and learns that he’s not a bad guy after all.
When Rose has her first test instead of protecting Christian she’s distracted by the ghost of Mason has been showing up causing her to fail the test. When confronted she claims she panic’s but Dimitri knows she’s hiding something he’s just not sure what. As if Rose doesn’t have enough to deal with because of Mason’s ghost and her current test they also learn that the Queen is going to try Victor Dashkov but being a royal he just may get off. As if that’s not enough they haven’t been invited to court to share their side of the story. Adrian pulls a favor getting them a last minute flight to court so they can share their side of the story. Thus sealing Victor’s fate for the rest of his life. With the return back to school Rose is plagued by more than just Mason’s ghost. Will she be able to figure out what they want before it’s too late?
I’m a huge fan of Rose she’s my favorite type of kick-ass-heroine who never gives up. The bond between Rose and Lissa is unique and I like that they are connected on a whole different level. I’m so happy that Lissa has stopped taking her medicine and is working with Adrian to enhance her abilities. I’m not sure how I feel about Dimitri he frustrates me but it’s clear he loves Rose just isn’t willing to risk it all yet. I think the relationship between Lissa and Christian is sweet they both are head over heels in love.
Shadow Kiss has it all intrigue, mystery, romance, ghosts, vampires and sexy men. The characters are well developed you can’t help connecting with them and cheering them on though the story. The author has done a fantastic job creating a world that they live in with the different types of vampires. The series is one I can’t get enough of it’s just so hard to put down so I stayed up super late reading only to finish this morning. The story while not as action packed as the prior book does provide a captivating story from start to finish leaving me dying for the next one. Vampire Academy is a must read for all vampire fans teens as well as adults. I know it stole my heart as favorite vampire series. Looking forward to starting the next one right away. Love this series!!!
