Thoughts:
Let me start by saying Nalini Singh is high in my top-10 of favorite authors. When she started the Guild Hunter Series, I wasn't sure about the new slant, but quickly fell in love with it. Elena rocks. Raphael is just... And together!
Every story that is their story is especially awesome. They are growing as a couple and as individuals, and it keeps me hooked.
Elena is adjusting to her role of Consort, and tackling the demons from her childhood that threaten to derail her relationship with Raphael. It helps that he won't let her get away with them sucking her/them down, and vice versa as he confronts his past and future. As the Cascade is gaining power, and Lijuan is growing more madly powerful, all this accelerates as well.
It's hard to say much about the story without getting into spoilersville, so read the blurb. Then get your hands on the book. There is great build-up, great character development, hot romance and a fantastic battle with intriguing new developments. It's a great story, and has me excited to re-read all of this series as I wait for the next one! Eek...a year away. (But, another Psy-Changeling next summer...and fingers crossed that there'll be a few more shorts in either world to help ease the cravings!)
Sandra wrote: "Not reading ... la la la la la ..... not reading!!!!"LOL! I was thinking the same b/c I haven't finished. Hope your copy arrives soon, Miss Sandra! *shakes fist at postman*
Mandy, you're master list looks great! :D Well done! Updates: I'm also reading
for 'kick-ass heroine'. I'll let ya know my FS choice as soon as I've decided on one. For team name .... "Third Time's the Charm" was mentioned. We could do some take on things found in threes, like Threesome (although there are 5 of us). It could be something altogether random and/or bookish. We could be "Lost in Translation", which I just re-watched for the 100th time and got me tearing up b/c I miss JP, and we have Miss Judithe who's in Japan. We could do a play on BSB or SOS. BSB: Babes Slaying Books or Book Slayin' Babes. SOS: Series Obsessed Sirens or Stuck on Series. Not coming up with much else. I'm cool with whatever the gang decides.
I rather like Book Slaying Babes. I have completed my dragons shelf and will post the review shortly. ~~cheryl

I really wanted to love this book. I have enjoyed the others in in the series but this one let me down. The story opens with the wedding of Aisling and Drake. Of course nothing is easy for Aisling so Drake does not show. So begins the dizzy zany ride that is Aisling's life. There is fighting between the dragon septs, summoning of demons and madcap attempts for a normal wedding. Jim is still one of my all-time favorite characters. The demon in the Newfie body is probably the only thing that kept me reading. Aisling has so much power yet often seems too stupid to live. Drake was too secretive and almost aloof. Some good points but sadly disappointing.

I do, too! (name, that is! Dragons shelf still in progress, but reading
and loving it!)
Sandra wrote: "Yes, its a shame Keri Arthur hasn't written any more of the Myth & Magic series yet."Isn't it?! It seems she doesn't plan more...though I'd be thrilled to be wrong about that...
Happy to be starting out Bingo with such great books, though!
ROFL! Came on to check for new posts and found a surprise...So, a little BINGO ninja has officially christened us "The Nameless Ones"! (Not me, and not sure which one it is, but it truly made me laugh out loud...thankfully, I'd already swallowed the sip of chu-hi I'd just taken!)
Judithe wrote: "That's what comes from us all focusing on the PRIORITY! Reading! LOL!"Plus it's getting increasingly harder to find team names with every round. I've thought of using your current one many times, or just call the team "Blue" or some other random word, since it's not really important anyway. :)
Good for you!

Merit is back in the third installment of the Chicagoland Vampires. It’s been three months since she was turned into a vampire. Her friendship with Mallory is on the outs so she’s been living at Cadogan House working as the Sentinel she’s even picked up a second job as house social chair. Ethan has taken over her training as Sentinel teaching her the ways to use her vampire gifts to their advantages. As Merit learns more about using her vampire skill the tension between her and Ethan grows she even gives over to the attraction only to have Ethan later reject her after.
As if dealing with Ethan isn’t enough to keep her hands full she’s also going to be protecting the Alpha Gabriel who will be heading up the Pack Convening. The Convening will be anything but easy because the shapeshifters will be tasked with the choice of returning to Aurora Alaska withdrawing from the humans or stay with them and fight. When the leader Gabriel is attacked by a drive by Merit and Ethan will have their hands full. Add in an invite to join the Red Guard it’s sure to be an interesting week.
I love Merit she’s a kick ass heroine who still has her soft spots even if those are for her master. I like the way the vampires have to eat as well as drink blood and Merit is a total foodie she reminds me of me. Plus she loves a good library with books it makes her so easy to connect with. I however don’t love Ethan he’s one of those characters I just love to hate. I do love Mallory and Catcher though they are so sweet and cute together.
I've been a fan of Merit for a long time I just had so many books to read she kind of got forgotten which I hate to say has happened but I’ve got plans to catch up. I love the action packed story with the mix of romance and touches of humor. The author has put her own unique spin on the vampire concept creating a captivating story that sparks the imagination. The author has done an amazing job mixing humans as well as the supernatural live together. Twice Bitten is a fast paced story that keeps you on the edge of your seat till the very end leaving you wanting more. I can’t wait to start the next book in Merit’s journey and see what happens next. I honestly think Merit has to be my favorite vampire characters. She also has sparked my craving for cabbage rolls in this book.
That's a series I've been wanting to start...just waiting for the price of the books to drop a little...LOL! Frugal me (nah, just try to set a max, especially for new2me authors so I don't go totally broke @ the bookstore!)

Review:
This book was like Harry Potter meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer, well minus the vampire slaying. It's the wit of the characters that give me a Joss Whedon feel (which is fantabulus thing because I bow down to him for his my god).
Life for Sophie has never been easy or normal. Raised by her human mother, never knowing her father who is a warlock by the way, has lived in more states then you can shake a stick at. Finally after the love spell gone crazy she's been sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for witches, shifters, and fairies.
And if she thinks her life wasn't normal before things are just going to get more and more abnormal. And anything but easy.
I really liked this book, a lot of twists that I never saw coming. Some mystery, a little bit of romance or more so heavy crushing. A lot of unanswered questions, but good unanswered questions. Because it has me on the edge of my chair now as I wait to read the next book.
Judithe wrote: "That's what comes from us all focusing on the PRIORITY! Reading! LOL!"LOL! I noticed that and thought it was done by you. Must be the other super sneaky BSB ninja >;)
I've finished Archangel's Legion and loved it. I've also started Kinked for 'dragons' and hope to have that finished by Fri so I can get both reviews posted before shelf announcements on Sat.
Phew! Busy week for me! Hope everyone's having a good one! I might be silent for a bit again -- hubby's off for Veteran's Day/USMC birthday and it's always hard for me to squeeze in computer time while he's home. But, I'll get everything posted before week 2 starts :D
Steph wrote: hubby's off for Veteran's Day/USMC birthday and it's always hard for me to squeeze in computer time while he's home. Mines Air Force and all week he's been playing the guilt card when I have reading to get done. I forgot about Veteran's day. Going to be so needy all weekend. =P
*busted* Nice to hear that hubby's are needy - you'd be complaining if they weren't. LOL.
I also loved Archangel's Legion, just trying to think what I want to say in my review - always the hardest part for me.
LOL Sandra! Too true :)Wasn't AL awesome? Wow!
Hope you and your Airman enjoy the holiday, Mandy. :)
Just finished my dragon book...very nice! Glad you loved AL, Sandra! (Looking forward to your review!) Have fun with your spouses on your holidays, Steph & Mandy!

Review
Harry Potter came to live with the Dursleys as an infant after his parents died. He’s spent the last ten years being treated poorly by both Mr. & Mrs. Dursley and their spoiled rotten son Dudley. Harry’s life starts to change when he receives mail but it’s snapped up by Mr. Dursley. When they see who the letters are from they attempt to keep them from Harry even dragging him away from their home. On his eleventh birthday while away from home Harry is startled awake by a strange visitor named Hagrid who tells him all about who he really is.
As Harry embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, everything will be different from the last ten years and it won’t be easy/. Harry makes new friends in Gryffindor’s house where the magic hat as assigned him. Together with his two new close friends the trio are not only tasked with school but with trying to figure out what is hiding behind Hagrid’s dog fluffy. Not only does Harry learn about magic but he also learns about his past and who his parents are even uncovering a magic mirror. Everything isn’t all good something dark is lurking still intent on getting at Harry Potter. Will they solve the mystery and save Harry?
I liked Harry granted he’s only 11 but his character doesn’t come off as a child he’s easy to connect with filled with courage and I couldn’t help wanting to cheer him on. I liked his friends however Hermione got on my nerves with her know it all. I just wanted to strangle her a few times. However when I mentioned this to my hubby he promised that she will get better as the books progress. I loved to hate Draco as well he’s such a pain.
I decided to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s stone for two reasons. My hubby has been harping on me to read it for ages even though I’ve seen the movie and it was perfect for my monopoly game. The characters are engaging and easy to connect with you can’t help cheering them on. The author has created a unique concept by putting her own twist on the boarding school loaded with magic. I’ve not read many witch/wizard books but this one was really good. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was a fast read I just had to find the time to sit down and read. I like the book it’s well written and flows along smoothly so kids as well as adults will enjoy the story. I watched the movie right after the only difference I noticed was how the ending was different but I think they did a really great job of making the movie match the book. Plus it had dragons!!!! I’m looking forward to reading the next one. I know my hubby is as well.
I read this one for Monopoly and it's on the dragon shelf and has dragons so switched to Harry Potter
Sandra wrote: "Spectacularly awesome. So sweet together and what a battle!"Agreed! :D Really enjoyed seeing how they are changing each other and growing together. Definitely a force to be reckoned with!

That sounds nice! I had such fun in San Francisco.
Mandy wrote: "I read this one for Monopoly and it's on the dragon shelf and has dragons so switched to Harry Potter"
That works! :)
Hoping to finish KINKED today and post my reviews today or tomorrow before the next shelf announcement.
Go, team, go! :D
I switched my FS book to
! Loving it, but I need a refresher...forgot some things that happened in the book before! EEK!ETA: Found on the SOS bookshelves.
Judithe, there is always so much that happens in a Cassie book. Though KC does sort of flesh out any important bits that you might have forgotten ;)
She does, and it's coming back, slowly! But wild ride...and only a third of the way in! (or maybe more...can't stop to check the page numbers!)
BTW, I probably won't be on our thread till late tomorrow (shelf day/time is Sun a.m. for me, and I'll be doing a Bingo peek, then running off for a special test day at uni...still debating whether to take to-be-graded papers or the ipad loaded with my FS book to while away the longer breaks between interviews...)Two teams (more?) already have at least three stamps between them! How are we doing? (Now sneaking off to write a review...goal is to get all of mine done before each Sunday morning stamp...read fast, writing MUCH slower!)
Carrie wrote: "How many hours do we have to post reviews?"Not sure what you mean exactly, Carrie. But, making a guess. We have one week to read/rate/review two books (with posted review being the only part counted, cause that's what counts for stamps).
In my case, I have one review up here, and one that I'm supposed to be writing right now. If the unposted review is still unposted once the new (second) shelf is announced in about 8 hours or so, I'll be behind one review. If I don't post the new 2 book reviews by the time the 3rd shelf is announced, I'll be behind by three, and...ouch, hitting the three strikes rule.
Steph posted a clarification, great example about this here.
Does that answer your question?
Now really running off to write my review. Honest.
Alright Ladies. I'm in the city with limited internet. Due to that fact I may not be able to post for points if reviews come in due to having to use the cell phone and can't do links. Just a heads up I will try my best. =D
Mercy Burns by Keri Arthur
Shelf 2: dragons
Date finished: 11/08/13
Rating: ★★★★☆
Thoughts:
This is the second, and final book in Myth & Magic. Which is disappointing. I really enjoy Keri Arthur's world building, and love her dragons.
While helping her friend, Rainey, uncover the truth about Rainey's sister's death, they unwittingly stumble across a plot for power much bigger than they expected, and realized. Rainey's death, just before the book begins, forces Mercy to search out the truth and get revenge so Rainey's soul won't be lost to wander, as soon as possible.
She soon encounters (saves?) Death, or rather a muerte, one of dragonkind's "problem solvers". She also suspects he's the one for her, but some rather significant status problems are involved. She's draman, he's full dragon, and that is quite the problem. Which is compounded by numerous "people" wanting them/her dead.
This was a very fast-paced, exciting read. Steamy & thrilling & action-packed. This was a great duology, and was very happy to see Trae, her half-brother & the star of book 1, too.
