Mary Catelli | 986 comments And ties off the thread as soon as we find out what happens with Crystal.

And now we know. I like this tie up. It really speaks to Haley's character development that she seemed willing to give Crystal a chance, but recognized when the line was crossed and she had to act. Crystal's "solution" to her problem is hilariously horrible.

Mary Catelli | 986 comments Yow. That's a painful if inevitable comic.

A bit of morbid humor before things get inevitably worse.

message 105: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments Yeah. Morbid indeed.

Mary Catelli | 986 comments Here's one fraught with implications:

I like the fact that Roy's not so easily manipulated. The slip at the end though makes me think the gnomes are going to get involved, mess things up, and give the villain what he wants.

This one's interesting. A nice pair of new characters, a little levity, and things move along in such a way that it's impossible to tell what might happen next.

Mary Catelli | 986 comments My o my. Things are definitely picking up their pace:

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
It certainly is. I wonder if he has a specific goal here or just wants to wipe out or turn as many of the representatives as possible?

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots09...

Poor Belkar. :( I wonder if this is the prophesied "last breath ever" death? I was honestly expecting Dark Durkon to turn him.

message 112: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments The Protection From Evil certainly would have complicated any attempt to turn.

message 113: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
How does that work with Belkar being evil in the first place? Does his own alignment not matter? I don't know much of anything about the intricacies of D&D rules.

message 114: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments It hurts him, too. He just grins and bears it because he finds the protection too valuable.

Makes sense. Thanks!

... Uhm, wow. That was rather unexpected and dire. I'm guessing this is a "prevent something worse by destroying the thing that could cause it" plot, but I don't know for sure.

Now I wonder if Dark Durkon is there to sabotage the vote. And if so, if which direction. His mistress can't rule the world if there isn't one. Would Roy be able to stand by and watch possible "yay" votes be killed if it meant saving the world?

message 117: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments I think at this point we're meant to feel as bewildered as Roy about what will happen next.

Here comes the pain...

I'm sure Roy won't be trusting Dark Durkon after whatever comes next.

message 122: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments Hel's probably in a "make-me-an-offer" mood.

message 123: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
Hadn't thought of that. This could get ugly quick.

message 124: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
Wow. That's quite the plan.

GO ROY GO! Although I don't like his chances. Obviously I don't think the world will be destroyed, but Durkon hasn't returned to the dwarven homelands and doomed them yet, so I see prophecy problems if Roy kills him.

Interesting side plot with the ushers. Don't think Durkon/Hel would be sabotaging themselves, so something else is going on here...

The strip's title and Roy's last line are fantastic.

message 131: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments Nice philosophical jab there.

Durkon could perhaps chime in there.

message 132: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments Ah, High Priest of Hel. Methinks you are very close to letting slip something that reveals all to Roy.

Wow. A lot about Dark Durkon explained and some harsh truths dished out. I think DD's going to find out he's wrong about "you are who you are on your very worst day" though...

message 135: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments I suspect that this is a set up for a glorious turn-about.

message 136: by Mary (new)

Awesome!!! Love the line Rich walked with Dark Durkon of Roy being cautious and perhaps hopeful about Durkon's state, but when it comes down to it he's not an idiot and realizes what's been going on.

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots10...

This was quite therapeutic to watch. :) Although I don't think this is a good time to stop and ponder the sword flame Roy...

message 143: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments If he doesn't know what caused it, it may quickly be necessary for him to know.

message 144: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
Indeed.

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots10...

"Nothing still alive" certainly sounds like a loophole, but I don't know how it'll be exploited. Roy certainly is selfless enough to die (again) to save the world, but there doesn't seem to be any way to turn him into a functioning undead fast enough. And if that's where things were going with Belkar, it'd be a hell of a coincidence for someone to turn him into a creature so fast and have him blaze back up the mountain.

Will be interesting. The "next phase" throwaway is troubling though...

message 145: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments yeah -- that loophole has a big question mark in it

The stalemate continues...

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots10...

message 147: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments At least the parts of the plot are coming clear.

message 148: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments One notes that if the last vote was one Hel secured, she would have been unlikely to have erupted like that. And if she did erupt, she would have likely do so differently -- by pointing out that it's unwise to offend her when she's about to control much of the world, say.

So either the last vote is against, or Hel doesn't know what it is.

The back-up plan points to that, too.

message 149: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
Good point. Evil Durkon pointing out that there's still a vote left when Roy asked if his side just won seems to indicate they don't know what it is.

This has all been very well plotted and balanced, but I don't quite understand why any God who wants to change their vote doesn't just order their acolyte to leave (quickly).

message 150: by Mary (new)

Mary Catelli | 986 comments No take-backs. As witness that Loki admitted that Hel had him trapped. Apparently death or nothing.
