Series Read-Along Challenge

One question, though. Most of series I need to read are the sequels. Let's say I've read book #1 last month and for this reading challenge I want to read book #2 and #3. How many points will I get? 5 points (2 for book #2 and 3 for book #3) or each book consider as one point?

Points are based on the position of the book in the series, so if you read books 2 and 3, you will get 2 points for book number 2, and 3 points for book number 3 ☺ If you buddy read them you will get double, so a buddy read on a book that is second in a series will earn 4 points in total, and a buddy read for a book that is third in a series will earn 6 ☺

Just one question: do you have to read them in order? I mean do I have to read #1 in that time or can I just read #2 or even #4 etc. straight away. Do I have to read them from the first of the series? Thanks.

No, you don't have to read them all ☺ This is mainly a way for those of us who have already started a series to finish the series off, so if for example you've already read
&
and still need to read
, then you can just read
without having to re-read the first two books ☺

That's right! I have loads! Keep reading new books and then never getting round to the rest of the series!

Thanks, Sarah! :)
And we have to have started it in either Nov or Dec right? Not have started in Oct and finished it in Nov? :)

I'm reading so many series ATM!
I hope I can work my way through them with this challenge!"
Hopefully! I end up waiting so long some times that I forget what happened in the previous books!

No, it has to be started today or later :( Didn't you already finish City of Bones and city of ashes? we are doing a buddy read of city of fallen angels on november 26th as you know, and that would get you 8 points as it's fourth in the series ☺
How far into it are you? I know Rachel already started a long one as well. I'll see what the other mods think. maybe we can work something out for you guys who have already got a book going.

Thanks, Sarah! But don't worry too much because while I was about thirty pages into The Immortal Rules and eighty pages in the Vampire Academy, I started The Lightning Thief in October and finished it yesterday! So that probably wont be fair to add!
Okay guys, here is the amendment to the rules concerning books started before November 1st. Feel free to ask any questions:
Each participant can use one book that they already started before November 1st, if it falls into one of the following categories:
1- The book is not shorter than 400 pages, and the participant is no further than 12% of the way into the book.
2- The book is part of an ongoing buddy read, and the participant is no further than 12% of the way into the book.
Each participant may only nominate one book to be used this way though, and this book will carry a maximum of 1 point for the book and 1 point for the buddy read.

Courtney - You can use City of Glass for that if you want ☺
Rachel - I think the immortal rules would count for you too if you were only up to page 38 ☺

I think 12% is about 50 pages so chapter 8 is probably too far into it. I'll check on my kindle when it decides to work!

I know, if it's a big book and you've just started you may well be reading more pages than someone reading a shorter book who started in after you. At least this way you'll get some points for it ☺
Courtney wrote: "So will a series book that is under 100 pages and not read with a buddy only be 0.5 points?"
Books that are less than 100 pages don't count at all unfortunately. novellas that are 75-100 pages and read with a buddy are worth 1 point. novellas over 100 pages are worth 1 point (2 if read with a buddy).

This is a two month challenge running from November 1st to December 31st 2013, and is fairly relaxed so that all you guys who are celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas will be able to read and get your shopping done ☺
Abbie and I thought that it might be a good idea for us to get some of those pesky sequels out of the way so that we can start some new series in the new year, and us mods thought that you might like to join us ☺
The way this will work is that you will receive points based on what number book in a series you are reading, and because we love to motivate each other, a buddy read will be worth double points. Yes Double!
ex:
1st book in series
points: 1
buddy: +1
2nd book in series
points: 2
buddy: +2
3rd book in a series
points: 3
buddy: +3
and on, with a maximum of 5 points for a book (ie: if you read pretty little liars #9, you will get the maximum of 5 points, +5 for a buddy read).
Rules:
- books must be part of a series.
- books must be at least 100 pages in length
Note; series Novellas between 75 - 100 pages will be worth 1 point, but ONLY if being read with a buddy (1 point includes the buddy reading points 0.5 for book and 0.5 for buddy)
- 2 re-reads are allowed, but only if they are read with a buddy, and detailed update/spoilers/reviews are submitted.UPDATE - up to 4 re-reads are now allowed, but only if read with a buddy, and detailed update/spoilers/reviews are submitted.
- books must be read between November 1st and December 31st
You can find our regular challenge rules here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Prizes:
- 1 winner who gets the most points
- 1 winner drawn by raffle
Sign ups, questions, etc. go in this thread, and there will be a separate thread for reviews here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
