Jalyn (jalynnie) | 3827 comments We have come up with a list of rules for our challenges because we are having a few issues with people loosing points for not following the challenge rules. Please read them so you don't miss out on points :)

1. Buddy reads do not count unless they were done in our group.
The reason we give out extra points in our challenges for buddy reads is because we are rewarding people for buddy reading in our group (our title IS YA Buddy Readers' Corner :D). Please leave a link to the buddy thread so it's easier for us to find.

2. All Reviews or Updates have to have details specific to the book for them to count.
We're changing our rules just a little bit. You can now either write a review after reading a book or you can update your reading status on each book at least 4 times to have your book qualify for a challenge.
~For Reviews:
If a review doesn't have any details then we can't tell if it was actually read. Even if it's only a paragraph of info we'll count it, but we need some details. If you give us something like "This story was really good. I really liked the plot and the characters." then we won't count it. There's nothing specific to the story in a review like that and it doesn't prove to us that you read the book so we won't count that.
~For Updates:
If you would like to do updates through Goodreads while reading your book, then we will count that for challenges IF you update your reading status at least 4 times with details that let us know that you are actually reading the book. Saying something like "lol" will not count as one of the 4 required updates. Neither will "that was so cute!" You have to say something like "I'm so happy that they finally said I love you to each other! I've been waiting for that forever!" or "Wow she just threw him right over her shoulder! She can really kick some zombie butt!" Details, people! It's all in the details :)

3. A buddy read won't count if the participants don't actually discuss the book.
We have some problems with people joining buddy reads, not discussing the book, then counting it as a buddy read for our challenges. There has to be at least an attempt at discussing the book (with details like what's currently happening in the book, the setting, or the characters, anything specific will do. Saying something like "is anyone else still reading?" doesn't count as trying to discuss the book). If you try to discuss the book you are reading, but your buddy doesn't join you in a discussion then that will still count because you tried, but if there is no attempt made to discuss the book then it won't count as a buddy read.

4. Books have to be more than 100 pages to count in a challenge.
The book has to say 100 pages on either Goodreads, Amazon or Barnes and Noble. This is to keep it fair for everyone.
*There are some exception for this in certain challenge. In the Group Stats Challenge you can always use short books. In other challenges it will be stated in the rules.

5. Rereads
We will allow one reread for challenges that are two weeks long or less and two rereads for challenges that are a month long.
Here's the important part:
Since you have already read the book, we will require more from you for a reread to count.
1. You can't use a book that you've already written a review for.
2. You have to write a review that is at least 3 paragraphs long and has lots of details.
3. You have to either update your reading status with details 4 times OR write your own summary of the book with your review (the summary will NOT count as one of the required 3 paragraphs).
4. It has to have been a year or longer since you read the book.

6. All books must be started within the challenge time frame.
This means that if the challenge runs for the entire month of January, then the books used for the challenge must be started no earlier than January 1st and can be finished no later than January 31st. The same goes for 1, 2 or 3 week challenges. Each book must be started in the challenge period, or it won't be excepted.

PLEASE NOTE
We will
~Check every book to see that it has enough pages.
~Read your review and check for details.
~Make sure that anyone claiming a buddy read for points has actually participated in the buddy read thread.
We won't
~Give points that aren't deserved.

*Also note that we may change the rules for certain challenges, but the changes will be noted in that challenge. Unless stated otherwise (see Group Stats Challenge if you'd like an example) these rules will apply to all challenges :)

Any questions? Please post them here.

You're welcome, but it wasn't just me who came up with this :)

message 4: by Tati (new)

Tati Quite often, I see that we're not allowed to do re-reads. I'm okay with this, but since I've only started to write reviews this year, there are a lot of books that I read, but did not review.

If I re-read them and write a review this time, would it still not count for a challenge?

message 5: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Tatiana, I'm the same way! This year is when I have actually started leaving reviews for what I read, and now I have a whole shelf on Goodreads dedicated to books I want to reread and review.

Tati Anyone?

Yes, sorry it's taking us a few days to get back to you. Jalyn and I have talked, but we still need to talk to Jona and Novel about this. We get back to you soon. :)

Your reviews are fine! I've already read them for the Group Stats Challenge and I would have PM'd you if you needed to add more :)

Kate (kaitlins16) I love how I can have the updates as a backup in case I don't post my review in time.

Sometimes I just don't feel like writing a review. Those updates might come in handy eventually.

message 23: by Catastrophe (new)

Catastrophe Queen (scarletgirlie) I'm glad re-reads are now allowed because sometimes I come across a challenge that would be perfect for a book I'd already read years ago.

That's happened to me too :)

message 26: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) I decided to base the books for the CYS challenge off of my status updates instead of the reviews. I'll probably get reviews for half of them up, but it depends on when I decide to post them (I take a long to do that).

I hope they work!

That's fine, just make sure you leave a link to the update page :)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments Jamie wrote: "Does non-fiction count for challenges or just fiction?"

Non fiction is fine. :) The only books we don't count are one's that have more pictures than words, or books that are under 100 pages.

message 35: by PreePree (new)

PreePree | 65 comments Can 1 book be used for 2 topics?

Example: If the challenge is to read a book published in 2013 and a book about vampires, can I read 1 book that covers both and have it count for both?
