BOOK TITLE SEARCH: Late 70s or early 80s. Family goes on a vacation and leaves their family dog behind at a kennel. Family dies during the trip...can't remember if it was the whole family except one...story was written in the dog's point of view...if he didn't get re-homed, he would go to the pound to be euthanized. Probably a young adult fiction.

Title of book is "The Visitor", author Gene Smith.
