message 401: by Harlee (new)

Harlee Definitely the House of Night books. I was really into them a few years ago but I finally realized they were going nowhere and I hated the main character. Not sure these are popular books, but I think the authors are. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman The Summer Prince by Alaya Dawn Johnson
I just couldn't get into The Graveyard Book and I was SO confused during The Summer Prince. DNF either of them...

Harlee Laura wrote: "The TMI series for sure"
I liked the first three, thought the fourth book was okay, but I have little interest in finishing the series.

Harlee Liam wrote: "Would have to be warm bodies or the infinite sea for me"
I wanted to read Warm Bodies but the movie ruined that for me. I hated it.

message 404: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne (zivvy_reads) Divergent. So many unanswered questions in a world poorly built with a plot that made absolutely no sense. Ugh.

message 405: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne (zivvy_reads) And while we're at it, 50 Shades of Garbage. THAT should be self-explanatory.

message 406: by S.L. (new)

S.L. Bynum (slbynum) I'm surprised I didn't like The Mockingjay much. The ending sucked and something kept repeatedly happening to Katniss through the novel that was annoying. I love the Hunger Games trilogy as a whole though (if that makes sense).

I feel exactly the same :)

message 408: by Ellen (new)

Ellen If I stay. All she did was moan about everything and it was obvious that she would choose to live. She knew that her parents wanted her to live and to go to Juilliard. Adam was in love with her and she loved him so there was no way she was going to die instead of staying with him. It was very predictable and was not worth the time it took to read it. Where She Went was better but still not great.

message 409: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 25 comments Divergent... the whole trilogy. Especially the ending of Allegiant!! It wasn't well-written enough to have a kind of plot twist like that. I kind of felt like Veronica Roth wanted to write something that hadn't been written before, so she got the ideas from all the major YA books and put it together.....
I mean, there were parts of the books which I liked, but overall I don't quite understand why everyone is soooo crazy about them

message 410: by Koury (new)

Koury The Matched trilogy by Ally Condie. I'm sorry, but I didn't enjoy those books at all. The reviews said all hunger games fans would enjoy them but I don't see how they can say that. The two are nothing alike.

message 411: by Beverly (new)

Beverly | 55 comments Twilight series. So cliche. So predictable. So ick.

message 412: by Harlee (new)

Harlee I loved Divergent, only liked Insurgent, but never read Allegiant because the spoilers from that book were ALL over the place when it released. Ruined the story for me :/

message 413: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I hated the 5th Wave. It was dull and plain boring. I also thought the Matched trilogy wasn't that great either.

message 414: by m (new)

m (bella_mckenzie) | 94 comments TWILIGHT!

message 415: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Shiver also and Twilight!

message 416: by Annie (new)

Annie (anniesmusings) | 69 comments Fifty Shades of Pathetic--I mean grey. Bad writing and an abusive relationship, what's not to hate? Also The Kill Order by James Dasher (prequel to the Maze Runner). I'm still planning on reading the series though. This book had very 1-dimensional characters
The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen. Same as the kill order,1-dimensional characters.

message 417: by Aria (new)

Aria (DauntlessBornA) | 16 comments the infinite moment of us is absolute crap. It was sexist and teenagers who are 17 ( this is a quote from the book) have "sex like bunnies"

message 418: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (cs576) The Elite (The Selection, #2) by Kiera Cass this book was like torture to read. The main character was super whiny and bothered me way too much.

message 419: by Jessica (new)

Jessica All of Rainbow Rowell's books. I read Eleanor and Park, Fangirl, and Attachments this summer and hated them all. I don't know why I even read all three. The writing wasn't any good and the stories weren't great either. I honestly don't understand why they're as popular as they are.

message 420: by Kerrin (new)

Kerrin Chelsea wrote: "The House of Night series after the first three or four books were just awful. I wanted to read about vampires, magic, and elements of nature.

I did not sign up for "Which boy will Zoey date next?..."

I know what you mean, after the first few books it all just became boys, boys, boys, boys, oh have some life threating disaster but still think about boys.

message 421: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I love Rainbow Rowell's books. I think the writing is amazing! I don't really care for book 4 from Bloodlines from Richelle Mead. It all became about just the romance which was blech

message 422: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmmmmma) For me it's If I Stay, which is quite a shame because I went into it with high expectations as I am familiar with the setting of the book. I kept an open mind throughout, but I only enjoyed a few aspects of the story. I really could not connect with any character aside from Adam. In my opinion, Mia is too flat, whiney, and predictable :( I wanted to enjoy this book, but unfortunately I was unable to.

P.s. It is not the worst book I've ever read, I just don't see the hype.

Kerrin Emma wrote: "For me it's If I Stay, which is quite a shame because I went into it with high expectations as I am familiar with the setting of the book. I kept an open mind throughout, but I only enjoyed a few a..."

I didn't even finish it. I read about four chapters, hated it and couldn't be bothered to finish the rest. I hate forcing myself to read a book and I don't see why it is such and amazing book. As you said, Mia is predictable and whiney. I can't stand characters like that. I might give it another go though if I have nothing else to read.

message 424: by Mael (new)

Mael The Fault In Our Stars.

I was expecting it to be a great book that would make me cry, but I didn't even get emotional and I was just like meh when I finished it. I guess contemporary is not my thing, but I will give Rainbow Rowell a try anyway, Fangirl sounds pretty fun.

message 425: by Catharina (new)

Catharina Shields (catshields) | 3 comments Sacajawea by Anna Lee Waldo. It's a massive 1300-page book that I had bought and had forced myself to finish to the end. Very disappointing and a extremely tiresome read.

message 426: by Ruby (new)

Ruby | 9 comments For me, it was Divergent. I feel like it was really overated. The storyline I think was an alright idea but I feel like it wasn't executed very well. So I was disappointed. The idea was interesting but not well-written.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Wasn't that impressed with "Hush, Hush" by Becca Fitzpatrick. It seemed to me to be "Twilight" recycled.

message 428: by Allison (last edited Jul 27, 2015 01:29PM) (new)

Allison I'm trying to think. In the Young Adult genre, it was probably Mockingjay, to be exact, but out of any book I've ever read, it was Dork Diaries.

But if it's not required that you didn't have to read the book all the way because it was so horrible you couldn't finish it, definitely The Iron King.

Debbie | 6 comments An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
I felt like the book dragged and all the math just made matters worse

Alexis (TigeroftheTowerGuard) | 137 comments No longer popular but it was at the time. Jurassic Park.

message 431: by Beverly (new)

Beverly | 55 comments Please no hate - But I just don't get the hoopla over Paper Towns. I think maybe because I really did not like Margo, and I could not sympathize with Q's obsession with her. I thought she was an entitled brat, and Q deserved better.

message 432: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Michaels Conklyn | 6 comments Easy did and still do not get the hype about this book. It was overrated so unoriginal, not one of my favorites. Not the worst book I have ever read I mean at least I finished it..

message 433: by Bookworm (new)

Bookworm Rot & Ruin. I couldn't even finish it because I was so annoyed over the whole "zombies are people too" premise. Alice in Zombieland was pretty terrible too.

Came to say this. I hated Divergent.

Same! I was actually okay with the second book, but it wasn't particularly enjoyable, and I absolutely REFUSE to read the third book. I've already suffered enough thanks to that series, ha ha ha.

Emma | 23 comments The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. Even though the narrator is fifteen I felt like I was reading from a ten year olds point of veiw. I just couldn't relate to the story or the narrator at all.

message 448: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (tessalivesandbreathesbooks) The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith, it was just so boring! And this is coming from someone who loves romance ...

message 449: by Chella (last edited Aug 05, 2015 02:00PM) (new)

Chella (chellamclelland) The two I've read this year that I just really did not like were Red Queen and Paper Towns.
