Help with a class assignment

Hello all,

I am currently in a readers advisory class and need to be advised. For a class assignment I am setting up a reader program, Hot Books for a Cold Winter Night, is the name of it. I am looking for suggestions of books that you might want to see on a display for this. These books do not have to be strictly romance, although I want to include some, I am also looking for books set in warm climates or other fun reads for a cold winter night. Any help is greatly appreciated.

How about Dante Alighieri's famous epic poem Divine Comedy?

His visit to Hell is probably the most famous literary depiction of the concept. Hell has its entrance in the Northern hemisphere, the other side of the world to Purgatory, and the bottom of Hell is at the Centre of the Earth. Hell is systematically divided in thematical tortures for crimes of the same nature in its Nine Circles, for example people violent against others are trapped in the Seventh Circle of Hell in a boiling river of blood with centaurs firing arrows to keep them in their place.

I tend to read books set in warm climate countries when I get tired of the cold weather. My go to books are Under The Tuscan Sun (Italy) and M.M. Kaye novels (India) like Shadow of the Moon, as well as her 3 part autobiography (Sun In The Morning, etc...). Of course, Eat, Pray, Love has Italy,India and Bali :)

Getting Stoned with Savages: A Trip Through the Islands of Fiji and Vanuatu is a quick, fun read occurring on some islands of the South Pacific. It is not a romance but the guy follows his wife to basically the end of the world because she gets a job there and then tries to write a book while keeping himself entertained by the native cultures.

Not sure if you're still looking for ideas, but this group turned me on to author Richelle Mead. Her Dark Swan/Shaman series starts off with a book set in Tucson and the geographic/desert locale plays a part in it. The first book is Storm Born. Good luck!
