Kate Bentley Hi, does anyone have any books to recommend me? I really want to find a good one! I'm a 14 year old girl but I'll read anything :)

message 2: by Melek (last edited Oct 28, 2013 05:21AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Melek Can you be more specific? I guess I may help but knowing what you like the most would help a lot :)

Edit: Now I went through your books and saw that our tastes are very similar, so I think you may like Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh , Angel (Angel, #1) by L.A. Weatherly , Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost , not that sure about that but may be Unearthly (Unearthly, #1) by Cynthia Hand . Also I see that you like dystopias too, so you can give a shot to Metro 2033 (METRO, #1) by Dmitry Glukhovsky . It definitely is not a young adult book, so it will be good after reading Matched, Divergent and etc. Going back to paranormal books, you can also try Sookie Stackhouse series, Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris is the first book of it. The first four, may be five books are good but I don't recommend the other sequels.

These were the ones I've read. I haven't read Taken (Taken, #1) by Erin Bowman , Incarnate (Newsoul, #1) by Jodi Meadows , The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner , Incarceron (Incarceron, #1) by Catherine Fisher , Crewel (Crewel World, #1) by Gennifer Albin , Every Day (Every Day, #1) by David Levithan , Catch-22 (Catch-22, #1) by Joseph Heller but I'm looking forward to, so I recommend them too.

Mindy I'm assuming you like fantasy type books since you posted this under TMI. How about the Existence series by Abbi Glines or the Vampire Academy series? I really liked both series and there's nothing too specific in them that a 14 year old shouldn't read.

sim If you liked the Hunger Games, you should read Legend and it's sequel Prodigy! It is terrific!

Paige Yin if you like TMI and hasn't read anything else from Cassandra Clare yet, I suggest you to try Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare series, which I enjoyed very much.
other than that, as Melek recommended, Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead series is really good, my cousin who's 14, she's reading it and loving it.
some other i am recommending includes
The Secret Hour (Midnighters, #1) by Scott Westerfeld Airhead (Airhead, #1) by Meg Cabot Teen Idol by Meg Cabot Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine Skinned (Cold Awakening, #1) by Robin Wasserman Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld

Anna If you haven't read The Infernal Devices yet, you should definitely read them. Then there's the Percy Jackson series, which is one of my favorites and I recommend it to everyone, and after that the Heroes of Olympus, which is a sequel to Percy Jackson series. The Divergent trilogy is also one of my favorites, it's absolutely amazing, and of course the Vampire Academy series ;)

On his eighteenth birthday, Aaron begins to hear strange voices and is convinced he is going insane. But having moved from foster home to foster home, Aaron doesn't know whom he can trust. He wants to confide in the cute girl from class, but fears she'll confirm he's crazy.
Aaron tries to dismiss the news and resists his supernatural abilities. But he must accept his newfound heritage and quickly. For the dark powers are gaining strength, and are hell-bent on destroying him....

by thomas sniegoski

Airel by Aaron Patterson

All Airel ever wanted was to be normal, to disappear into the crowd. But bloodlines can produce surprises, like an incredible ability to heal. Then there’s Michael Alexander, the new guy in school, who is impossibly gorgeous…and captivated by her. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she can hear the sound of pages turning, and another, older story being written. It is the story of an ancient family, of great warriors, of the Sword of Light, and the struggle against an evil so terrible, so far-reaching, that it threatens everything. Airel knew change would be an inevitable part of life. But can she hold on when murder and darkness begin to close in and take away everything she loves? Will she have what it takes when the truth is finally revealed?(less)

fallen by Lauren Kate.

Best regard.

Melanie Vampire Academy! Do it. You won't regret it

Eve O. I suggest the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series and "The Heroes of Olympus" series by Rick Riordan; also, Meg Cabot's "Mediator" series. You might also like Isabel Allende's "City of Beasts", "Kingdom of the Golden Dragon", and "The Forest of the Pygmies"; they are very interesting stories with kids your age as the heroes. Other authors to try are Garth Nix, Pittacus Lore's "I Am Number 4" series, "His Dark Materials" series by Phillip Pullman, and the "Alex Rider" series by Anthony Horowitz. I almost forgot about Christopher Paolini's "Eragon" series and "The Artemis Fowl" series by Eoin Colfer. If you are a fan of horror, I would also suggest Darren Shan's "Demonata" and "Cirque du Freak" series. You could also try James Patterson's "Daniel X" series and the first three books of his "Maximum Ride" series. You should also try "Death and the Girl Next Door" by Darynda Jones.

No offence to you Laura but Kate do NOT try The Maze Runner. You may find the first two books fine like I did burt the third book was so boring I couldn't even finish it. Now it's just lying on my bookshelf, unread...my money wasted. Actually my money was wasted on the other two books because the TMZ series is VERY, VERY average and I regret that I bought it. Again no offence to you Laura, I just don't recommend this book or series to Kate :)

message 32: by Faye (new) - rated it 4 stars

Faye divergent is so amazing!

Donna You may like Michelle Sagara's "Cast" series. Set on another but similar world with humans, leontines, dragons, arians and Barrani (similar to elves) it's a series about a young girl on their version of a ploice force who has strange marks (like runes) on her skin which give her powers which she has much difficulty controlling. There have been 9 books so far.
