Mary I think the series could be successfully rebooted under the following scenario.

The Chicago Bureau is just another experiment for those going over the fence. Everything the Allegiant experienced was just another lie with the goal of extracting the super-divergent Tris from the Chicago experiment.

The death serum worked as it was supposed to and was based on a simulation serum...Tris didn't know it was a simulation serum and didn't think it through properly. She fantasized that David was in the room with a gun....she fantasized that her mother came to got her. Because she was divergent her heart didn't stop like others would, but its also possible they extracted her and restarted her heart.

The real world is much more technologically advanced than the Chicago Bureau, and Tris' body was in a state of suspended animation. The wounds were makeup. Uriah is either really dead or also extracted. The ashes provided were faked.

Tris was extracted to harvest her eggs to be matched to a male super-divergent from another experiment. Or better yet, the whole GD/GP thing could be one giant lie and they just want Tris as a guinea pig to test more advanced simulations.

Book 4 could start with the search for Tris if we had a short story unraveling Book 3.

I write this scenario not so much because I'm angry at the death of Tris but rather Allegiant as it is closing out the trilogy. I really would like to see the world building resolved...a lot of it just doesn't make sense to me.

Mary I guess my thought is that she's not dead, just shuttled off to a different experiment in another part of the country...There was so much in Allegiant that was unreal to me that I began to believe on some level that what I was reading wasn't the true reality, just another subterfuge.
