TCF Monopoly Player Discussion Thread
Just double checking, if a player on a property that another player is currently reading to own the other player doesn't have to read the rent rate right?
Right Jenne. And if the second player finishes before the first player, then the second player owns the property. You only have to read the rent rate if the first player finishes before you land there.
Also, Megan asked in our game if she had to actually shed tears while reading a book for water works and actually crying isn't necessary. If you get choked up that works. You can reread a book that made you cry before. Or if you read a book that has made others cry that'll work too. I'm not all that emotional and it's really hard to actually make me shed tears, but I get choked up, get that tight feeling in my chest. I am going to make a judgement call and say that is what you need. No blood, sweat or tears are necessary for the game, but if it happens, then that's cool...wait...not the blood part, but the sweat and tears part. ;-)
For the being in jail space, does it have to be the main character who is arrested or in jail? I would like to read
, but it is the father of the main characters who is in jail and may be up for parole.
oohh yes thats a good question turtle as I have a book in kind, I Hunt Killers but it is the father and not tge main character.
Not necessarily the main character, but a central character. I would think that the father of the main character is pretty central. Even if that person isn't in the book much, they are central to the main characters world.

The father has had a lot of influence over the actions of the main characters and from what I can tell without actually reading it yet, they do visit him and get letters from him.
Oh, this looks like fun! I'd like to play if anyone is still looking for someone to play with! My reading speed is somewhat fast, a book a day/every other day depending what I have going on.
Park Place - Never Finished Shelf - Must read 3 book to own. Must read 5 books if the property is owned.Boardwalk - DNF Shelf - Must read 3 book to own. Must read 5 books if the property is owned.
Ok, I could understand if one of these two shelves was used for one of last two fields, but for the only two fields where you have to read 5 books to be dnf shelves is a bit too much of a punishment :/
Can't one of these two shelves be replaced with one where we can find some nice books? :P Just a suggestion for the next round...

I'm OK with the dnf shelves because there are books on there that I will probably like. It's just based on someone else's opinion. But it is a bit redundant to have two lists that are almost identical and there are some types I wish were listed to force me out of my comfort zone... like Classics and Non Fiction.
Again, as Gea said, just an idea for next time. I really like this game. Great job, Paris!
I don't mind the shelves, I'm more rattled by their position. I had to go through most of my TBR to find 5 books for Not Finished shelf. I can only hope I don't land there again :P I think it would be better if one of them was positioned earlier on the board.

In Monopoly, they are the most expensive properties and have the most expensive rent. Monopoly-a-holic here, lol. I could play it alllllllll day.
But I could be completely wrong, lol.
I took a closer look at dnf shelf and even though their meaning is the same, the books on both shelves are different. I guess I just had the bad luck to land on the shelf where more "serious" books are kept and not on more fun one lol
Where do you request a thread for a new game? We have a couple people on the sign up thread to have a game.
Thanks for the feedback. Danie is correct. I picked those shelves because Park Place and Boardwalk aren't supposed to be easy to get. They cost the most in this version as they do in the regular version. I tried to make sure that the shelves were different enough. I didn't pick genre shelves because we do have a group of diverse readers here and I didn't want to turn anyone off of the game. I looked at the first like 20 pages or more of all of the shelves I picked and saw that there was a good mixture of most genres on them.
I will be making tweaks I think and would love to hear from everyone what they think should be changed before new games are started. I'll start a feedback thread.
As I said I didn't take a look at dnf and I thought it will hold more or less the same books as Never Finished as the meaning of the shelves names is the same. Shelves are pretty different and that way there's no real problem for them to be on the last two properties. I just didn't like that two almost identical shelves would be on the hardest properties. My mistake, and I apologize for it :)
Oh Gea, don't apologize at all. I am really excited to actually hear feedback on this game. Please keep it coming and let me know if you have any other comments, concerns, ideas or anything. Thanks!
hey! I wanna play too. im looking for a relaxed game with reading 1 or 2 books a week. please let me know if anyone wants to join :)
Joanne, I've added you to the list on the first page, hopefully we'll have someone for you to play soon!
Hey Joanne, if you want to join our game you can. We have already started and nearly around the board once but there was 3 of us and one seems to have disappeared. As long as Brittany doesn't mind. :o)
Oh ok cool. Thanks! are you guys reading one to two books per week? Thats all I can manage for now with work. :D
Another question about being jail. If I attempt to roll doubles (one roll today and two tries tomorrow as per the above question) what happens if I don't roll doubles after 3 tries? Do I automatically get out of jail or would I then resort to reading the book to get out? Thanks!
I should have asked that question lol! I kept rolling twice a day until I got doubles. That will teach me.
Paris.... Thank you so much for thinking of this challenge....Though as in the game Monopoly, we all want to win the game...We are all winner in having read so many books.....:)
Can I ask a question about coming out of jail. Do we just continue on from there? or from the diagonal corner? (I'd never heard of this rule till now so double checking)
Paris, are we allowed to change our books half way through? I'm reading one but I'm struggling to be honest it's bringing back some bad memories and it's not enjoyable.
Elishia, you continue on from the jail spot once you get out.Vicci, you can change your book as long as the new book fits the spot you're on.
Sue, I'm so glad you're enjoying the game. And you are definitely killing a lot of books off of your TBR.
Paris for luxury tax if a character is a cop and is undercover as a hooker would that work for being poor since she's pretending to be?

Carrie, Nothing happens with doubles. I totally forgot all about rolling doubles. At this point, it only means something if you're in jail.
