How do we decide a winner? Did I miss that part? Is there going to be a timeframe if a winner isn't decided? (I'm remembering those 4-5 hour marathons as a child where everyone just gives up!)

I think this is right... Once all of the properties are owned, whoever owns the most properties wins.

Sounds good! :)
Sounds good! :)
I didn't read the rules. I saw challenge and Ezi and knew it was a must. I haven't played monopoly in several months might be time to dust off the box and see if I can beat the kids while the hubby watches the games.
Thanks to those who answered the questions while I was napping (being sick sucks). We are using 2 dice and the game ends when all the property is owned, unless those in your game decide otherwise.
Paris I love this idea. I am bummed RL is just too much right now and I can't commit to it... but maybe in a couple months someone will want to start a round with me.
Thanks Dawn. I'm sure someone will want to play in a couple of months...okay it's more I hope someone will want to play in a couple of months. lol
Is there a minimum page requirement for the novella when you are 'just visiting'? I want to read one of the spider/gin blanco novella but they are really short! Only about 10 pages!
I hadn't specified a page minimum on that Belinda, but I was thinking 50 pages. If you want to read those novellas and they're 10 pages, read 5 of them or something to cover it.

Yes we are Carrie :) Would you like to play with us?

Paris I have another question? Say you own a property where you read 1 book to own and 2 if paying rent....
And you land on a property you already own...do you read 1 book as owner or do you have to read 2 as renter, even if it is your property?

Would love too :)
Sue I think with normal monopoly you would be Just Visiting as you already own the property. Don't quote me on it though I may be (probably am) completely wrong! Ha

Great I'll let Paris know that You, Denise and I will be playing together, once she gets our thread up we can then hash out how we want to start things off :)

This looks like a great challenge. I wanna play if there's still someone needing a partnet in crime. Just one thing... I've never played Monopoly before. I have a couple of questions:
1. Let's say I rolled and landed on Vermont Avenue I read 1 book to own it, but 2 if it's already owned by somebody else? Or is it owned by the board?
2. The shelves would work like "money"?
Thanks!
Dyllan how many books do you read a week? Our team hasn't started yet if you would like to be our fourth player, most of us read 1 to 2 books a week

Dyllan, you can partner up with Megan, see Post 119. She reads 1-4 books, and needs a partner.
Would that be okay? (if not, you can also partner with Kat, see post 121)
re your Question:
I am a novice and monopoly, so I can't answer your question. If no one gets to it, Paris will when she gets off from work.

Great Dyllan I'll add you to our group and as soon as Our thread is set up we can figure out what to do next :)

Sue, when you own the property you're just visiting so you can read a book or not, it's up to you. But you can roll right away since you're not obligated to do anything.
Dyllan, the property isn't owned until either you or one of the people you are playing with reads 1 (or more depending on the property) books from the shelf associated with that property. Does that make sense?
OK Dyllan, Denise and Carrie Our thread is all set up see you over there soon :)
Paris >>>> What to do when you land on Chance and get "Get out of Jail Free" cardDo I need to read something for this - it doesn't specify. Sorry if this has already been answered.
If our group is set to read 2 books a week do we read 2 books for 1 roll or do we roll twice and read 1 different book for 2 spaces, I just want to be clear before we start playing :)
Melissa, that's just a freebie. You don't have to read anything and now you have it in your arsenal if you land in jail.Kat - you guys go at your speed. So if you roll and finish your book, then you can roll again. The amount of books read a week is up to your group. The original 1-2 books a week was just to make sure you found someone of the same speed to play with.
Sue wrote: "Thank you Paris....hope you are feeling better....:0"Thanks Sue. I am a little bit, but eh.
Thanks Paris I just like to have a my bases covered before I jump in head first...lol :)
Ezinwanyi~For you, Agron wrote: "so is Megan the only person who still needs a team?"Right now it looks like it. I was gonna see if she wanted to play with me. Looks like we read at a similar rate. I just hadn't gotten that far yet. lol
~♥ Kat ♥~ wrote: "Thanks Paris I just like to have a my bases covered before I jump in head first...lol :)"Totally understand. I was worried that some of this didn't make sense so I appreciate any and all questions.
I've been lurking for the past couple days trying to decide if I'm up for the challenge, so I guess I'll go for it!I can probably swing 1-2 books a week.

I'd love to join your team...if the offer still stands :)
I have a question about Chance and Community Chest and this may have already been asked but I couldn't find it. It says under the rules:
Chance and Community Chest – there are 12 cards for each. If a player lands on one of those spots they will roll the dice a second time and then would “pull” the corresponding card and do whatever it says on the card. Once a card is used, it will be out of play unless needed to finish the game. Books for this would need to be at least 150 pages.
It then lists 12 numbers for each, but I'm not sure I understand how I'd be able to roll a 1 when I roll the dice. If I'm rolling two dice again there's no way to get a 1. Am I just reading this incorrectly?
~Melissa~ wrote: "Paris - any pg requirement for the Railroads? Except for the novella one - I saw that."
Here is what it said (And I saw no other page requirement, although I feel like there should be some sort of guidelines even for novellas. ie, minimum 25pages or something)
Railroads
• For Reading Railroad – Read whatever you want.
• For Pennsylvania Railroad – Read a book set in Pennsylvania.
• For B&O Railroad – Read a book that someone else thought stunk.
• For Short Line – Read a novella.
• If a player lands on an “owned” railroad, the owner will recommend a book for that specific railroad.

All I could see was pg requirement for Short Line. Couldn't remember the name of that Railroad when I posted my question.
Melissa - Thanks for asking. We'll go 150 page limit for everything other than the novella. sorry I didn't post that. for novellas, we're going 25 page minimum unless otherwise stated.Megan - Thank you for pointing that out. I didn't even think of that. You definitely can't get a 1. hmmmm. I'll make a decision on that. It's gonna have to be based on the games already in progress, but I'll be removing one of the Chance and Community Chest.
Megan wrote: "I'd love to join your team...if the offer still stands :)"Definitely. Do you want to wait and see if anyone else wants to join us?
Paris wrote: "Megan wrote: "I'd love to join your team...if the offer still stands :)"Definitely. Do you want to wait and see if anyone else wants to join us?"
Great! Sure, I'm fine with waiting :)
Great. If anyone who reads 1-4 books a week is interested Megan and I are going to start a game soon.Megan, if no one speaks up by tomorrow night, I'll put up our game thread.
Game Note: I know some people like to play Monopoly that you have to go around the board once before you can buy property (I never play that way mostly because it makes those marathon games even longer, lol). With this you don't have to go around once. You land on it, you read the necessary requirements, it's yours.
