Bill The two winners for the Nov/ Dec Group Read are The Invention of Murder: How the Victorians Revelled in Death and Detection and Created Modern Crime and Into the Darkest Corner. The treads for both discussions will be up by 15 Nov. Thank you to everyone who voted, you made it very interesting.

Wow, time is flying past this year. Maybe it's a sign of my increasing old age. :0). I hope everyone is enjoying the Oct/ Nov Group Reads, but maybe you can take a few minutes from your reading to nominate a book for the next Group Read. Just please read the rules we ask you to follow in making your nominations.

Nominations will be open until November 2nd and voting will take place from Nov 3 until November 11. Please read rules below -

General rules for Group Reads

1) If your nomination wins - you will be the discussion moderator.

2) One (1) nomination only per person. Neither self-nominations by authors nor nominations by their respective publishers or publicist will be accepted.

3) Do not cheat or manipulate results. It is not acceptable to create fake accounts to nominate books or vote in polls and it is not acceptable to invite people to the site for the sole purpose of nominating a book or voting for a book in a poll. It is not acceptable to ask for votes or influence the poll in any way. If the moderators feel that a group read poll has been manipulated, the book in question will be disqualified. If the moderators feel that the user(s) are fake accounts, these will be reported to Goodreads for further review.

4) Please do not repeat an author we have read in the last year. Check the bookshelves to see the authors we've read in the past year.
https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

5) For your nomination please include Title, Author and Link (Use the "add book/author" link at the top of the comment box).

6) Since we are an international group, please check to make sure the book is readily available in more than one format. The last thing we want is to nominate a book that no one can get.

7) Finally, a word about series - the joy or bane of a mystery reader's life! Please consider whether the book you are nominating would be best read by someone who has read all the previous books in the series or can be enjoyed by someone new to the series too.

Good luck with your nominations.

I think we already read this book, a year or so ago.

Bill Fiona, Ryan - These books only seem to be available in ebook format. Maybe we should wait a while until they might be available in more formats and be more accessible to our members.

Tobin - We have read The Alienist before, but it was over a year ago, so if you want it to remain in the nomination list, that's fine. If you want to nominate a fresher book, plse do so. Thanks.

Ann | 151 comments This is a book by my all-time favorite Author. Before Dick Francis became an author, he was a British steeplechase jockey for the Queen of England. He is a three-time winner of the Edgar Award, and was named a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America in 1986.
He died on Valentines Day in 2010 at the age of 89. I'd like to remember him by nominating Wild Horses by Dick Francis Wild Horses
