Strait Family | 13 comments I absolutely loved this book from the day it came out. I have shared it with other teachers and students. Much of the humor comes from the actual written letters not the illustrations. The idea for the book is creative. However, I'm not sure to illustrations "tell" the story on their own which I believe is one of the Caldecott criteria.

Lisa Blouch I don't think it will work for the Caldecott either, for exactly the same reason Diane noted. I personally love it and have just shared it this week with my own students, who have had a blast with it. The text itself is the essential part of the book and could probably partially survive even without Jeffers' fantastic illustrations (except for the last pages, of course.)

Gay Lynn | 14 comments Great idea for a picture book, but agree with others that the text leads the humor in this book.
