Chris | 2 comments When I was a kid, my grandmother read me a book about a boy who befriended a talking tree that was outside his window. I could swear the boy's name was Jeremy. In the book, the tree is slowly cut down as the boy grows up and eventually he has to move away and leave the tree behind, but finds that his flat (I think the book is British) is furnished with the tree's wood, and the whole flat talks to him. Something like that.

My grandmother does not remember the name of the book, and the actual copy was destroyed when their house burned some twenty-off years ago. Anyone find this familiar?

Jim Beckmann | 4 comments Boy talks to two apple trees. Sells the apples, later cuts down tree to build house and boat. In old age sits on stump. The Giving Tree

Chris | 2 comments No, that's not it. This one is different. I can only say that it must have originally been published prior to 1982. It's an older book, and I've never seen another copy of it. The cover wasn't four color. Thanks for the suggestion though, Jim. I actually did a lot of internet searching (and here on goodreads) seeing if I could find anything. No dice so far. Any other ideas?

It's a very weird kids book about some children going through the process of growing an apple tree and making applesauce

Kimber (kimberlibri) | 158 comments The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree? Other than that The Giving Tree and an Islamic story based on the Giving tree (or vice versa) is all I could find in search. Hope more turns up.

Adele | 1435 comments This is not an exact match, but I find it interesting because it is sort of an "anti-The Giving Tree" - the tree thinks humans do nothing but take and then she makes friends with a boy who doesn't take from her. Also, the book was originally published with the author as Jan Waide in 1978 and then when it was re-printed in 2008 the author had changed her name to Jan Hampton. Here is the re-print: Jennifer by Jan Milz Hampton
