Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments I'm struggling with the title for my cosy mystery. The book is getting close to ready, and I still can't make up my mind, or find quite the right thing. If you are willing, please drop by my blog and vote in the poll. Thank you so much!

A Freezing Cold case.

A Chilling Education

message 4: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments Hmm, some nice ideas there!

Hey, this was supposed to help me narrow it down, not give me even more to chose from! ;)

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha Sorry Rebecca I couldn't resist!

message 6: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 58284 comments Chilled to Death

Of course, I don't know how the murder occurred, so that might not work.

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments Hmm....Frozen Stiff.

ETA: another well-used title.

message 8: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments Now I'm doing it,. But we may find the one that jumps up and down and tells me it's the winner.

message 9: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie Jackson | 52 comments Frozen Stiff is close but the cover would have to work with it well.

message 10: by Poornima (last edited Oct 23, 2013 10:04PM) (new)

Poornima | 2 comments How about "Set in the freezer" ?

Or

"The PTA Blues"

Juli Pennock | 27 comments I liked the one in the comments of your blog, "The Ice Cream Did It."

Something that popped into my head: "Barred to Death."

Eh. I don't know. Good luck though! I'd love to be able to write cozies, but I'm horrid at devising (and solving!) mysteries. Tell you what, though, your blurb makes me want to read it :)

message 13: by Juli Pennock (new)

Juli Pennock | 27 comments Maybe that should have been "Ice Cream Barred to Death"...?

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

These are fun. Mine are not so good but it's fun reading these.

Juli I agree that it looks like a good story. I can't write either! I love to read though.

message 15: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments Thank you, Juli and Jamielynn! Whatever title I end up with, I hope you do read it and enjoy. The hardest part about this was making sure no one resembled too much anyone I've worked with over the years. . . :0

Murder on Ice

message 17: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments Mmm. Murder on Ice has potential [runs off to check Amazon]. Rats. Two other books beat me to it.

message 18: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Brenner (amandabrenner) Bummer. It was all I could come up with. At times I wonder how I can be a writer with so little imagination. Wait...brain cells are engaging. How about Cold Storage, Frosty Encounter, or Set to Zero? There, now I feel better.

I'd LOVE to be a cozy writer, but my brain doesn't work that way [sad face]. While I like to think I can write (working on a novel right now, actually), I cannot for the life of me work up a good mystery for a cozy, and I hardly ever have it solved before the reveal. I do love them, though!

So do I.

Corpsicle. I am just kidding. haha!

Frosty Encounter is great!

message 23: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 370 comments Perhaps we need to make a repository of book titles that cozy authors can just select from. We may not be awesome at writing the books, but we are HILARIOUS at coming up with titles!

Great idea! I have lots of books in me, and struggle over the titles. You guys are hired.

BTW, Death By Ice Cream is leading in the poll. Majesty's me think of the ice cream truck we hijacked this summer...

excellent!

message 28: by Charlene (new)

Charlene (charlenethestickler) How about:

THE CORPSE IN THE COOLER

NO SEASON FOR ICE CREAM

STUDENTS DEMAND: NO MORE ICE CREAM BARS

THE LOUD MOUTH CHILLS OUT

MENU CHANGE: OUT OF ICE CREAM BARS

WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM

A REALLY COOL PTA

~~these may all be thrown (most likely), but I submit them anyway. Just goes to show how tough titles are!

message 29: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments I do like The Corpse in the Cooler and A Really Cool PTA (though the latter probably wouldn't really work).

Titles ARE tough. And really important . I got spoiled with The Ninja Librarian, since it was a pretty obvious choice!

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments Nancy wrote: "Love this thread. It's fun. When does the verdict arrive?"

I don't know. My poll came up with "Death by IceCream," but some of these suggestions are throwing me into doubt again. Maybe I should do another poll with my favorites!

message 39: by ☯Emily (new)

☯Emily Ginder | 58284 comments Probably should. We voted before the discussion and all the suggestions.

message 40: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments ☯Emily is tired of waiting for GR announcement, so now has Booklikes account. wrote: "Probably should. We voted before the discussion and all the suggestions."

Exactly! Give me a day or so to get the suggestions together and set up a poll.

I like this one. : )

message 42: by Rebecca (last edited Nov 07, 2013 08:11PM) (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments Okay, so I put up my five favorites from the suggestions (some of the best were already well used, so I disqualified them, and a few others just didn't work with the story). And the fifth one is more of a joke than a serious title, but what the heck.

Find the poll on the sidebar of the blog, www.ninjalibrarian.com
And thanks again for all your help! I'll send an advanced review copy to the person who suggested the winning title, if I can figure out who did it.

message 43: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments The race is on, and currently nearly neck-and-neck between "Death by Ice Cream" and "The Corpse in the Cooler" (we all like alliteration, don't we?).

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

I can't wait to see which on wins! This has been a lot of fun Rebecca!

message 45: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments Thanks, Jamielynn! I may use this for the sequel (my NaNo project), too. A whole forum full of heads are better than one.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

I hope you do Rebecca!

Barbara Lockie | 17 comments Gotta be "The Corpse In The Cooler ".

Agree!

message 49: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 217 comments Get your friends to vote :D

Of course, in the end, I'll have the final say. Or I would, if I could make up my mind. Corpse in the Cooler has that wonderful alliteration. But Death by Ice Cream has. . . ice cream. Also a naming pattern that might be repeatable/sustainable for a series ("Death by this" and "Death by that," like MC Beaton and the "Death of a . . . " pattern).

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

Geez now I have a craving for ice cream in spite of the corpse! I love ice cream bars.
