Science Fiction, about a guy who I think was disabled, and still became great. I think he formed the mercenary group? but that wasn't in any of the titles. Thanks!!

You're looking for Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan saga. (You might try googling something where you've got such specific information).
First book is 'Warrior's Apprentice'. His disabilities are brittle bones, short, and manic-depressive.
When a name as unique and specific as "Dendarii Free Mercenaries" is remembered and a simple search shows that not only is there a Wikipedia entry on that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dendarii..., but also that the author's website is named for it http://www.dendarii.com/ ...well, I would like to argue that an exception should be made to usual policy and that this should be shelved and marked as Solved, even though the op has not confirmed it. :)(And, yes, I have also read The Warrior's Apprentice, and agree with Miz_geek and kvon.)
Dorsai! is similar and the premise is almost the exact same. And from his description, it could be the man who forms the Dorsai. Sigh, just shows--there is nothing new under the sun. :o)
