Abby Vandiver | 124 comments I wondered the same thing. I think it is Advance Review (or Read?) Copy. It's for reviews of books not yet released. I think that's right, Kellie. All these abbreviations on here get me confused sometimes!

Martyn Halm (amsterdamassassinseries) | 915 comments Advanced Reader Copy, see http://amsterdamassassin.wordpress.co...

An ARC is a proof of an (as yet unpublished) book, sent mainly to reviewers so they can have their reviews ready when the book is published. ARCs are often provided free of charge. Since there might be slight differences between an ARC and the published book, ARCs are often highly sought after collector items.

Maybe ask them here, I'm sure someone can answer them. Of course, you can also try to Google them, although you might get multiple answers.

Brenda Clough (brendaclough) | 361 comments Although they are not supposed to resell them, you can often find ARCs on Ebay or used. They are the books that are bound in plain paper covers (red or yellow or green) with just type, no illustration, on the front. Only the ARCs from very famous works are at all valuable (Harry Potter).

Laurel Rockefeller (laurelarockefeller) | 144 comments On GR, can't an ARC also refer to a book offered to readers for free in exchange for a review?

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 491 comments Usually on GR, when it's the case, they call it R&R (Read and Review). ARC is when the book is not out yet.

R.A. White (rawhite) | 361 comments I've also seen them referred to as PRC (pre-release-copy, I think). Or did I totally mis-interpret that?

A review copy is a free copy of a published book provided in exchange for a review.

Never heard of PRC. ARC is the commonly used term.

Sometimes the ARC are referred to as 'galleys', but that's not accurate. Galleys are typeset manuscripts send to the author by the publisher for final approval. If the author finds anything wrong in the galleys, they can be fixed (for a price) by the author prior to publication.

Aarati | 11 comments PRC, I think is a format of an e-book, that works on Kindle.

Quoted from wikipedia:
"The first generation Kindle can read only unprotected Mobipocket files (MOBI, PRC), plain text files (TXT), Topaz format books (TPZ), and Amazon's AZW format."

However, ARC is a pre-internet term, just like MS (manuscript) and 'galleys'.
