Sci-fi book about a girl in post-time war with robots controlling the rest of earth /s

THE MAIN BOOK that i'm looking for though is...a book about a girl who lives in a post-war setting where the world was wiped out by a disease. The book begins with her going to a house to search for something and one of her friends gets trapped and dies. The rest of the world is dead except for this small community living in New England; outside of the community are the Rebels and these robots that rule the rest of the world. They, however, now lie dormant. In the end, the girl befriends a robot named Sam, and apparently they communicate through pheromones........then Sam gets trapped, but the building explodes, he escapes, and a bunch of other things happen. I can give more explanation, but I'm not sure any of it would help...Thanks? :D
