Vanessa | 21 comments I'd like to read something by a female author. ('Cause I'm a girl I guess...?). Sci-fi seems fairly heavily male-author dominated. Never hurts to change it up.

I really loved Nancy Kress's Beggars in Spain. Perhaps her Probability Moon could be a selection? Or if you know of other well-regarded lady authors please share!

Cory Shankman (shade_of_dawn) Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood is a good one. I read it years and years ago and hardly remember it. I'd be up for reading it again for sure.

Here's a list of Sci-fi books by female authors:

Downbelow Station sounded interesting from the description.

Vanessa | 21 comments I'd be down with Downbelow Station. Or I'd probably still suggest Probability Moon.

Vanessa | 21 comments Doomsday Book also caught my eye. It won Hugo and Nebula awards. The reviews seem very polarized though. Either love it or hate it. It seems to have a historical bent to it, which I'd be into (scifi doesn't have to be all future).

Also this isn't by a female author, but it struck my fancy: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

Lets read Probability Moon next, starting in January. Since it's a short book(>300pgs), it shouldn't take long to read. I propose we follow it with Oryx and Crake.

Has anyone read Rendezvous With Rama by Arthur C. Clarke? I've seen it mentioned a few places recently and thought it might be an interesting read.

I've read it, and it is excellent.
