that and the fact that she's just got a chip on her shoulder becvause she doesn't want ot be queen....that's got ot be annoying as heck.
our lovely author is great at writing in teen angst and that's what we got here!

Don't worry, it gets better! keep reading :)
She is a brat. She said that one of the boy's anticipation for a date was cute, as in a "Aww, look at the cute little boy. He actually thinks he can win!" type of way. She's horrid!

To top it off I find that Eadlyn has precisely zero redeeming qualities.

She's horrible, even knowing how tired her dad is, knowing how unhappy the people are, and how much the whole family and nation needs her to do this right she decides to just make a joke of it... She's rude, snippy, cruel to some of them, and honestly jack doing what he did I loved because it finally showed real emotion from her, even if it was terror... Then the way she speaks to her maid, and her not even knowing how the people are doing, how her father's doing, that her mom's friend can't have kids... She's so pathetically self absorbed being "the most powerful person in the world" that she's forgets she isn't the world but just as she's told another person with a job no more or less important than anyone else... I had to force myself to finish this book because quite frankly she disgusts me with her shallow self absorbed behavior, always trying to push the boys into a mold saying they are forgetting protocol or etc when she herself is mad and being so horrible because she says she doesn't want to be forced to do anything... **SPOILER**

Ingredients:
1 cup of stuck-upness
1 bottle of whine
4 table spoons of selfishness
3/4 cup of annoying
1 can of B with an Itch
1/2 teaspoon of love
Directions:
Mix everything in a dirty garbage can using a stick up the a**. Spray Bratastic
on baking pan then pour in mixture. Set the oven/stomach to 98 degrees. Wait 9 months. Give to the most awesome couple ever.
Serves 36

I hate Eadlyn. I didn't notice her "improvement" by the end of the book. She changed her mind about the marriage thing, but only because she didn't have Ahren to fall back on anymore. She realized that she was going to be alone, so she decided to get married. Well that's how I understood it. For me, that's really pathetic. In the end, she was only thinking about herself. She cared about the Selected, yes. But wanted to keep them all for herself. She cared about her brother, but didn't want him to marry Camille because she didn't want to lose him, yet another selfish act. In short, she never really cared for anybody else. Even in agreeing to the Selection. She may have considered her dad's condition, but in the end, she wasn't wholeheartedly participating for the sake of her people; she was doing it to listen to her father and get things over with.
So no. I don't like her at all. Hoping she changes in The Crown though.

When she says things like, I am strong, I can do this, I don't need them, etc... To me it doesn't sound arrogant or cocky because it's not bragging. Eadlyn seems to me a very anxious person. That is her way of dealing with stress.
I suffer from very bad anxiety and when I am put on a very though spot I tend to do the same. I focus inwards and try to do peep talk because If I focus on what is happening I will spin out of control.
I think she is seeing that things are happening to fast and getting out of control and she doesn't know what to do anymore. She is pretty much forced on something against her beliefs, that diminish her value as a person. How hard is that?
(I know I am biased but that's what I felt)
To be honest Maxxon and Ahren are much worse.
One for being incompetent on how to rule is country. Man so many things you could do! Make a summit with the rebelious, let them feel they are a part of the solution. Get them alternatives. Find a way to make the transition easier. I dunno.
I get that we don't know how things are and what he did but c'mon! The Selection worked because his dad was a freaking tyrant! It made people believe they had a chance to improve their lifes by playing that twisted game! How did he not grasped this!
The only thing he did was making his daughter an easy target and pushed her unnecessarily to the line of fire, WTH?
Oh... And don't let me start on f. Ahren that just became a major asshole because she asked him if he was sure he wanted something. Sure, totally called for..

I know a lot of authors are going on about how 'strong' and 'modern' their characters are but they take it to the extreme. It is NOT acceptable for people to behave badly. Men being rude to women is an outrage, but the other way around and the women are goddesses. Feminism is not an excuse to be rude.
It annoys me so much!!!
eadlyn was indeed rude and she was really confused plus a little selfish and thought too highly of herself

By the way, who do you think Eadlyn will end up with?
And do you think America (Eadlyn's mother) will live or die?
I really hope she lives!! :)

You mean women being rude to men are goddesses while men are to put up with it.

When she says things like, I am strong, I can do this, I don't need them, etc... To me it doesn't ..."
There's nothing wrong with her pep talks, and the position she's in is difficult. I don't think she's not a complicated character, either, but she's still awful. Being under pressure doesn't excuse the fact that she constantly lashes out at the people around her, namely the selected. She also doesn't know how to relate to or emphasize with the people around her and doesn't try to.

Me. She seemed different in this one ( America) . But then again I guess sense she got older she would be a little different. Seeing as she has so many kids and also the job of being Queen and age... it can sometimes change people but I did feel that way too.

and I feel that Eadlyn behaves like a spoiled child, I like her brother Ahren better, I think that was her name.
that's it

i agree, in the beginning i was like okay when is this going to change, then she fell in love and i feel like she realized not everything is about her. the love forced her to see other peoples problems, of people she cares about

I found Eadlyn incredibly selfish, narcissistic, spoiled and annoying. It honestly for me at least, took something away from America and Maxon as characters and parents because they let their daughter grow up to be so ignorant and stuck up. She did improve towards the end but I just couldn't really forget about how she was and how she treated people and talked down to them (like Josie and Kile). Anyone else?
