My mother was recently brought to the hospital, so I have been visiting her as well as taking care of her home and working long hours. So I haven't been able to be around much to do any moderating, or keep up to date on the forum. I don't want to let it slip, so I offer to anyone interested to help me mod this forum. Again sorry for the absence I want this group to get the mod it needs.

I hope all goes well with your mother, Dan. I'd volunteer, but I don't do enough on the half dozen groups I already moderate.
I hope your mother gets better soon. If you need someone to help out I'm happy to give a hand until things return to normal for you. Not totally sure what this involves so if there is someone better qualified maybe a better choice but happy to help otherwise as I enjoy the aim of the group.
Thanks, Jo. There's not much to it, just moving threads to the right areas, and deleting spam threads (haven't had to do that once yet). The big thing is putting up the poll every now and again, and setting up nominations, updating the group read book, I will still mostly do the main stuff, but if I am busy or miss, you would be able to set up the polls and group reads. It also lets you lock threads. Thanks for thoughts, Jim and Jo. She is doing okay, the doctors just need to monitor her while fixing her meds.
Jo apparently I can't make you a mod because you don't have a verified e-mail (whatever that means) thanks for the thought though.
I have made you a moderator Jo. Essentially all I do is make a nomination thread on the 20th of the month, the same day the previous poll ends. A new poll begins on the first of each month, same day the group reads begin. Again most of this I will do, but if I miss feel free to update them.
For June i'm going to have limited access to the internet for part of the month. I will get the monthly threads and email set up beforehand (probably tomorrow). Is there anybody who would be happy to give me a hand and in case of new members welcome them and keep an eye on new posts etc. for this month? If you're interested either post here or send me a message. Thanks in advance!Jo
I will, if no one else volunteers. I don't have a lot of time or memory for setting things up, but I do check in often & moderate several other groups. I'm more of a King Log type moderator. I can welcome people & make sure spam gets deleted or reported.

We'd like to announce that we have a new moderator for the group. You may already know Cheryl as she is already an active member of the group. We are looking forward to her contribution to the continued running and development of the group. Welcome aboard Cheryl!

Thank you to Jo, and congratulations to Rosemarie and Ed!
Thank you moderators, past and present, for making this such a good discussion group. My participation is waning, has waned, but I am still a lurker. Keep up the good work.
Jim wrote: "You're welcome, Buck. Hope to see you around more, though. Not reading as much SF?"Not reading as much of anything. Don't know why. Still listening to audio books, but not reading. My participation in Goodreads, not just this good group, is fading.
Moderator Needed! If you'd like to do it, please send me a PM.
My health isn't very good (MAC lung disease) & it will probably continue to go downhill, so we need someone to become a moderator. The duties aren't onerous since we have a good, quiet group, but it takes a couple of people to check in daily to deal with spam messages & do a few monthly chores. They can be split between the mods & there isn't any reason to take them all on immediately. Even if you did it all, I doubt it would use up more than an hour or two per month.
The monthly chores are pretty obvious; starting the BotM group read, the short story, nomination topics & shuffling the topics from important to not. Updating the bookshelves & the "What this topic is for" topics. Creating the poll each month & sending out a broadcast message to all members on the first & when the poll is done. That's about it, besides regular group participation.
Thank you all. Such is life. I'd really appreciate it if someone would step in to help moderate this group & keep it going.
I'm very sorry to hear about your health issue, You have been a great moderator. Having just turned 75 and although I have no major health issues (plenty of minor ones) I still don't feel that I am up to the job.
Sorry to hear about your health, Jim. I was trying to message you but it keeps telling me user not found. Is there a trick to it?
Natalie, to send a private message to Jim you need to first become a "friend". Click on "Jim" in message 45, then "add friend".
By the way, moderator functions on this site are easier to use from a computer visiting this website, not a smartphone or tablet using the goodreads app.

Thanks! I had added him as following the author but just found the pop up menu to add as friend
