When I was young I found an old scifi book in an used books store (this means that the book was published at least 20 years ago).
I don't remember many details, but I do remember that the plot was about a sentient asteroid (silicon based or something can't remember) that had lived by itself for a long time and gets into the solar system where it mets someone that was going to die (I'm not sure if he was drifting or if he just finds the asteroid).
After that the story begins (revenge I think) and the guy travels all over the Solar System... doing something
The version I read was a Spanish translation just in case that helps somehow so I'll have to check the suggestions since the title probably won't ring a bell, but I'm really itching to check this book because for nostalgic reasons, I'm aware that it'll probably won't be as good as I remember, but I'd really appreciate any help you can give.

You got me excited when I saw that it was a GRRM book, but it says that is a collection of short stories and the one I'm looking for is just a long one.

There's a short story related to this, hmmm - pretty much all spoiler given the topic of this thread: (view spoiler)[when terran ship and advanced alien are both going to be crisped by an unusual solar flare in a strange solar system, they both spot a comet that they maybe can hide behind but it's far away - but it's not known precisely when flare will happen, so terran asks them to leave room to share the shadow - turns out that terran will most likely be unable to make it in time, and he passes out. Wakes up with his ship behind the comet, spends the time during the flare investigating the advanced race's ship (they normally have little to do with humanity), and asks why they moved him, etc. They eventually tell him that they did not move him, and he regrets spending that valuable time investigating the wrong alien. Well, it's a fix-up, so it's all stories about the same guy and his seedship traveling around doing things. But that doesn't mean it's your book.

well... I should have googled that myself, is just that sentient asteroid always striked me as a silly concept... I think Rogue in Space is indeed the book I was looking for. Thanks a lot Daphne!
