What u hate in Emma?
I agree the book itself was good. Its just the actual character that was annoying.

Jane Austen said, of all her characters, Emma was her favorite because she was flawed and that was why Austen was of the opinion no one else would like Emma's character.
But a lot of people do like Emma anyway and some hate her.

She speaks sometimes unintentionally offending, and I found my self like that. LOL
I don't mind Emma being flawed, but she has to have something about here that makes me root for her. She does not, in my oppinion.
I love the book and all the movies. It's my favorite Jane Austen story. And yes, Emma's a bit spoiled and very meddling and sometimes thoughtless, but I still like her, and I think she grows.
Knightly, on the other hand, is absolutely perfect. Thanks, Jane Austen, for ruining real men for me. :)

For me, Emma's character development makes her redeemable but she does get worse before she gets better. I absolute detest her at the beginning of the book because she's selfish and blind to others and their feelings. She's also extremely arrogant. I think these get worse when Frank Churchill comes around too. It's hard for me to revisit the novel, or even watch adaptions because of it. I did thoroughly enjoy the novel but Emma is definitely my least favorite Austen character.
I found the character of Emma quite interesting: she is obviously spoiled and thikns of herself as the saviour of all her acquantainces, but that shows that she is also caring (though in her selfish kind of way) and thoughtful. She is not perfect and she realises that, though late, and she also thinks then that she needs to fix everything she has messed up. This makes her more real and relatable, and that is why I like her as a character so much, although I am not really sure I would like to be friends with her in real life.
For the most part of the book, she appeared spoiled and too proud.
