NO idea what this is Daniel, but it certainly sounds interesting.
How long ago was "a number of years"?
Where is the book set--U.S. England, Germany, Middle East?
Can you remember anything about a description of the lead female?
Do you remember if the author is male or female?

As for setting, I am unsure. I believe the main setting /might/ have been america, but the chapel mentioned under the spoiler I believe is more European...
I have no recollection of the author unfortunately, the most I could say about that sort of thing is the book cover was tan... maybe. And book covers change, so I figured not to mention it.
Edit: I answered my own question in a attempt to find the specific chapel mentioned. It was the Sedlec Ossuary, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedlec_..., and the wikipedia page listed the book as a media reference.
The book is The Black Angel. Go Wikipedia?
The fact that its a male main confuses me, but everything else lines up, so I'll just chalk it up to faulty memory.
As the book progresses she becomes entangled with this idea of fallen angels, specifically the 300 who fell from heaven. These fallen angels seem to reincarnate in some way (don't remember the details)
May or may not be a series (part of why I want to find it again)
Lots more details under the spoiler, since most of the major scenes I remember are spoilers.
Spoilertastic details: (view spoiler)[
She is herself one of the 300 who fell, and is the only one who regretted the rebellion and who tried to atone (but still cannot forgive herself). There is also a organization within the book that seeks to capture the fallen angels and prevent them from reincarnating, imprisoning them underground below some kind of historic chapel (something about it being made of bones).
There is a subplot involving a fallen angel who devours souls, and was killed at the end to release the souls (partially against the wishes of the group, since he would then reincarnate).
Satan apparently looked up at heaven as he fell, and is split in two, with each half having one blinded eye. One of the two has been captured, and is part of a complex trap for the others.
