Trent (ventica) | 23 comments Hi there, I went through a lot of your instructions about posting a new cover and I have had no success. I tried creating a new edition, but it says my ISBN is already in use. I tried adding the new picture, but it warns me that the picture will not show up as a new edition cover.

The original cover that was posted was for my first edition of the book. I had a friend create a new cover for me and that is the one on all subsequent book sales.
How can I add this new cover?

This is the link to the cover:

Thanks for any and all help you can give me.
Trent

Z-squared | 8575 comments We can't replace old covers; instead, we make alternate cover editions. The trick is to leave off the ISBN when creating the new edition. Then we leave a note in the book description, something like "This is an alternate cover edition for ISBN blah." Then a librarian usually attaches a note so other librarians know not to delete the edition, even though it lacks an ISBN.

Here is the alt cover edition for your book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I grabbed data from Amazon to fill in the details, you might want to check if I got everything right. As the author, you can now set which cover is the primary edition by following these instructions:

1) Navigate to the book's page. Be sure you have selected the edition you wish to become the default (primary) edition.

2) Click "edit details" below the book's description.

3) On the right side of the page, click "Set this book as the primary edition for this work". It's about midway down the page.

Only Goodreads Authors can set the default edition at this time.

FYI, the "Add additional images" feature is specifically NOT for cover images. I deleted the additional photo of the new cover you appended to the old cover edition.

PS--You rated your own book only 4 stars? That's harsh. :)

Trent (ventica) | 23 comments Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.
I worked for 17 years on book one, since high school, and I know it isn't the best. It was edited MANY times for amateur pacing and grammar and it is the best it can be. I am VERY proud of it, but I know it isn't 5 star work.
However book two comes out by the end of the month... and that is some 5 star writing.

Trent (ventica) | 23 comments On another note, will your librarian note stay on the primary edition page, or can I remove it? I am guessing from your message, it should stay, and that's cool. As long as I get the right cover up for this book, that is all I want.
Thanks again.

The note does need to stay.

Z-squared | 8575 comments Sorry, policy is it stays. If you want, I can move it to the foot of the description.

Trent (ventica) | 23 comments That's ok. Thanks for the help.
