Alice Reeds (alice_reeds) | 15 comments Hello everyone.

I recently uploaded my book onto Amazon through Amazon Kindle direct Publishing and I noticed something that really bugged me. On my word document and also on the versions on Smashwords, my novel has between 215 and 272 pages yet amazon says it only counts 163 pages. I used the kindle file that I downloaded from smashwords, knowing that there the page numbers are fine, yet still amazon shows me this strange number.
So my questions is, to those who also published their book through amazon or know something about this, is it normal that the page number on kindle is so much smaller than on PDF or Epub?

Alice

R.A. White (rawhite) | 361 comments Mine read as much larger. 600 and something pages until the paperback version was published, and then the ebook version changed to reflect the paperback at 388 or something like that. It's probably based upon word count and what they consider a normal number of words per page. My paperback is a large size and the font is small, so I fit more words onto each page.
i don't think people will be turned off by 163 pages. I wouldn't worry about it.

Fletcher Best (fletcherbest) | 54 comments Because Kindle readers can change the font size, the page count will vary. I believe Amazon calculates the page count by the most common font setting used by Kindle readers. If your original document had a larger font than the most popular one for Kindle, then Amazon would show fewer pages.

Makes sense, but still it's weird as I followed the amazon guid closely and just used the fonts they said one should use, but oh well.

Anyway, Thank you both. :)
