How would you make the book you're reading into a movie (answer this even if the book you're reading has already been made into a movie).

1. What parts of the plot would you emphasize, and what parts would you exclude?

2. Who would you cast as the protagonist, and who as the antagonist; who would you cast as the supporting characters? Why would you make these casting decisions?

3. Who would your target audience be for this movie?

4. Finally, how you would hook your target audience through the trailer? What moments in the book would you want to make sure were included in the trailer, and why would you want to include these?

Charles Raben | 28 comments The book I am reading is called The Invisible Thread

The part of the plot I would emphasize the most is the setting. The main character lives with her family in America. Her family is not wealthy, but nevertheless very generous. They always have people over for dinner. They constantly keep in contact with all their friends. Towards the middle of the book, the family experiences an uprooting of sorts. They are "evacuated." In the book, the main character Yoshiko is annoyed by this. The reasons he is annoyed is that "evacuate" implies relocated for the safety of the evacuee. The real reason they were relocated was become of racism. Every American of Japanese heritage all of a sudden became a potential threat.

The protagonist would be Yoshiko. The supporting characters are her mother, father, and sister. The antagonist would be a group: the US Government. The reason I made these casting decisions is because the US Government is the oppressor and Yoshiko and her family are the victims.

My target audience would be young teens, and people who want to learn about the history between US and Japan.

In my trailer, I would include clips of Yoshiko happy with her family, and then abruptly relocated to emphasize how real the drama of this traumatic event was.

Monica | 22 comments The book I am reading is The au pairs sun-kissed.

The most important part in the plot I think is the summer of teenagers who are about to begin college. I would emphazise the problems they have with internships/jobs, relationships, and the stress of what college to go to. At the same time though I would focuse on the good times the 3 girls have once they reunite in the Hamptons. I'd make sure the audience can relate and is engaged by balancing the struggles with the good times. I'd exclude the scenes that are repetitive or don't affect the main plot.

I would cast Mara Eliza and Jacqui as the main characters because their stories are the ones we focuse on. I wouldn't cast anyone as the antagonist because their really isn't one, their problems come more from situations than certain people. As the supporting characters I'd have the three guys after Jacqui, Mara and Elizas boyfriend, and the people they work with.

My target audience for this movie would be kids in 6-10th grade because they would be the most fascinated and interested in this part of life. Older people who have already passed this stage would most likely be tired of these kinds of stories.

For my trailer I would show a few quick glimpses at the girls and their moments with guys, together, and at work then end with a catch pharse that keeps you hanging. I would probably add music and a scene in the club. I'd use these scenes so kids could get a feel of the movie and be interested in it.

Freddy Ventura | 13 comments The book i am reading is The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring

The part i would emphasize on would be the adventure of frodo, sam and merry have taking the ring to saurons eye. the reason i say that is because the quest of them is pretty funny and nice how the author explains the journey. going to finish when home

Emily | 21 comments My book is The Still Point of the Turning World, by Emily Rapp. I would emphasize how sad Ronan's life was.

The part of the story that is not important is before Ronan was born. I would cast Tina Fey as Emily Rapp. I would find a European child who doesn't know how to talk yet to cast Ronan. I would cast Jack McBrayer as Rick.

My target audience for this movie would be kids from 7th grade to late 8th grade because they would be the most interested about what's going on.

In the movie trailer, I would show a few clips of Emily playing with Ronan, Ronan being born, Emily and Rick taking Ronan to the doctor in January 2011 to check his diagnosis, Emily crying about Ronan, and Emily writing stories about her life with Ronan, especially this book, which came out in March 2013, and an article named "Notes From a Dragon Mom", which came out in October 2011. I would add a lot of sad music of "The Beatles" through out the trailer. I would announce all the sad parts in the trailer and tell the audience the movie's name, and date it will come out in the first place. I want the audience to know how sad this movie will be.

Nicolas R. | 22 comments If I made my book Star Trek The Next Generation: Dark Mirror I would definitliy have to make some changes to the plot in order to make it properly coincide with the continuity of the show since the way the mirror universe is presented in this book is very different from how it is portrayed in the episode of Star Trek Deep Space 9 "Crossover" released moths later. Both reintroduce the mirror universe after it's original appearence the original series episode "Mirror Mirror". The difference is that in the book, the Terran Empire (or Earth Empire) is still powerful. In Deep Space 9 however, it is reavealed that the Terrans (humans) were overthrown and enslaved by the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. It would be very difficult to find ways to have this story still make sense.
For casting I would defintely get the actors from the show to play the crew of the
USS Enterprise. For the crew of the ISS Enterprise, since they are just alternate reality doubles of the protagonists the actors can do both versions (ex Patrick Stewart playing good and evil Picard, Jonathan Frakes playing good and evil Riker etc...) Since many of them have gotten older the film could be animated if necessary. I would have to get the original cast since they are the obvious choice. My target audience would be fans of the series. My trailer would have the characters saying how they don't know where they are and then showing a character and his mirror counterpart.

David | 6 comments I finished the Enemy by Charlie Higson and if i could make this book into a movie would emphasize the importance of survival and that you must do things that you know go against everything you believe in to keep moving. For the cast i would hire the actors from the walking dead because they already know what its like to lose everything over and over again. My target audience for this movie would be someone who enjoys thrillers and wants to learn what to do in case this were to ever happen. In the trailer i would start off with everything being normal and then suddenly with no explanation people leave everything they have and running as fast as they can. The actors would be try and find out what was happening being cautious with every move they make. When they eventually get a view of what is happening from a skyscraper they look down and see that everything has turn in to chaos.
