Brittney (brittney_joy) | 7 comments Do you have a favorite book that features an unusual protagonist or hero? Maybe someone that would usually be an antagonist or villian in a story? I love these twists...

J.G. Cully (jgcully) | 31 comments This would be mine. It requires knowledge of the Warhammer 40k universe but the protagonist is, basically, a really evil guy that you grow to like.

He stay's true to being a monster and has a twisted kind of honour to the way he does things. Despite his evil, he is loyal to his friends and you find yourself respecting him despite his demeanour. That plus the dark humour of the character, and indeed the whole book, is very refreshing and unique.

Emma (rpblcofletters) Yes. Don Giovanni from Don Giovanni. He's a murderer, a rapist, a liar, a cheater, et al. At the end, when he dies, you think, "Aw... poor him."
But that could just be because your favorite singer was just dragged to hell by a statue.

Emma (rpblcofletters) If you think about it, most protagonists are unusual. Truthfully - have you ever read anything about a boring, normal character?

Tara ♪ | 445 comments True. But most of them, though unusual, are also good guys. :) And although you naturally like good guys, sometimes it's a little tiring to hear about the virtuous protagonist...

Emma (rpblcofletters) I meant like a boring office worker. A student in a school who is actually not special. Average grades/average job. Nothing special at all. Not excellent. Just average.

Tara ♪ | 445 comments Yeah, I've never actually read a book about someone like that, probably because it'd be too boring to publish! :)

Jennifer Priester (jenniferpriester) The only one I can think of at this time, probably because I have been working hard to complete it, is my unpublished book I am working on in which I feature a character who is a hero with a major dark side. She has many villainous thoughts and actions even going so far as to almost kill some of my other characters on multiple occasions. Yet despite all this, she is a hero at heart, even though sometimes this part of her is deeply buried, and has quickly become my favorite out of all the human characters I have ever created.
