Alice (asimpson) | 87 comments What an adventure this is!

Your energy and willingness to publish your books and market them yourselves deserve a resounding BRAVO!

I've always been a visual artist, creating artist books and sculpting. In the background of my day to day, I worked on a story I wanted to tell, developing characters whose flawed lives really mattered to me. I workshopped and edited, workshopped and edited-- for more years than I like to admit!

At a time in my life when I might be looking at a rocking chair, I took a giant leap and sent my query letter out into the worrld. One NY literary agent loved the story, and within a week sold Ballroom to Harper, the gem of HarperCollins.

Told in interconnecting stories, Ballroom is about a group of strangers united by a desire to escape their complicated lives, in a faded New York City dance hall a year before the wrecking ball arrives.

It's more than a book about dancing, and more about how these men and women search for connections, to escape the loneliness of their lives, and the dreams they have ~ real and imagined.

I'lll let you know If I ever figure out how to update my new blog. For now, I'm completely dependent on my 12 year-old grandson!

Thanks for the excellent advice, Jennifer.

You'll need to use a program that allows you to place all your book cover images next to each other. Photoshop Elements can be used for this, or Pixelmator on a Mac. If you already have it, Powerpoint (or Keynote) could also be used, but you'll need to do a couple of steps to convert it into an image (export to PDF, open in an image viewer, then convert to JPG). Easy on the Mac, not sure which free program on Windows can be used.

Cover photos are 851 pixels wide and 315 pixels tall, so if you use something like Photoshop Elements, use that to create the size of your image.

As far as traffic, on my author website ( http://www.unqiuelygeneric.net ), most of the incoming traffic comes from social media. A lot of people won't go to a website like mine on their own, so they need to have reasons to get there. Having my Facebook Page and Twitter Feed is where people can subscribe to follow me, and then see (hopefully) my updates. If you're using something like Wordpress on your site, there are plenty of widgets which will automatically update your Facebook and Twitter feeds with new posts you do, but I prefer doing my own social media updates since they are more natural.

Kevin Cunningham (brutesentiment) | 2 comments To respond to the original question, I'm one of many who do not have an individual Facebook page for my book. I do have my own Author Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/uniquelygeneric ), which allows me to not have to rebuild a follower base after each book. (Assuming I get my second one published...) So anyone who liked the first book will get to know about all the others.

That said, I do have unique websites for myself as an author ( http://uniquelygeneric.net ) as well as one for my book ( http://tohellwithfate.com ). By doing this, it gives me the most possible chances to catch people doing google searches for my book (or me), rather than them getting redirected to Amazon or some other place.

By using Social Media to guide people to my websites, I've found it gives me the most control over my own image online.

That said, I still don't know if I'm going to bother putting together a Google+ page...... I probably should. Using the world's biggest search engine as another place to have information about my books online wouldn't hurt...

Terri George (goodreadscomterri_george) | 2 comments Hi
I've recently published my debut erotic romance (book 1 of a trilogy) and am (even more recently) on Twitter and Facebook - not that I really know what I'm doing, confused as I am with all thing social media. I've posted images/quotes and news about my book and have shared photos from other pages and have finally worked out how to get my Goodread update status to link with my Twitter and FB pages so my reviews on GR of books I've read will appear on both pages - phew!

I was wondering if anyone can help me with an App problem. I did have the Goodreads App (the big G) on my FB page, but that seems to have disappeared and I have no idea why. I also tried to get the red Read My Book App, but I'm getting the message again about needing permission.

Oh I'm hopeless with all this GR, Twitter and FB stuff and going round and round in circles, my head's starting to hurt with it all, but I won't give up. I'll get it right eventually! Then maybe I'll have the time to actually get on with writing book 2 of my trilogy!

If anyone would like to look at my page it's here https://www.facebook.com/TerriGeorgeA...

Robert Walton | 9 comments I created a Facebook page for my book a couple of months ago. As far as I can tell, it's done nothing for the book. That's likely because I haven't agreed to buy an ad. Posts go nowhere unless you pay.

Does anyone make use of the "Buy My Book" app on their Facebookk Author or Book page?

For instance, see www.facebook.com/benchtips

Facebook also has some HTML code called a "Like Box" that lets you show recent activity from your Facebook page on your book's website. I'm using it as an easy way to show some fresh material on the home page of a couple websites without having to update the site itself.

Hi Robert, Are you participating on goodreads, writing reviews, responding to reviews, etc.? Goodreads recommends that without actually "selling" our books, that as authors we interest people in what we read, what we write, about what we think of what we read, what interests us, and reaching out to readers with similar connections. Admittedly, for me, it takes me away from writing, which I prefer doing, but I try to spend some time at it every day. Making friends.
