Suzan Lauder (suzan_lauder) Nick, I suggest you have a look at my comment under the other thread. Perhaps you'll learn a bit about marketing essentials in the 21st century. Or not.

Buying a book and bragging about it? Really?

message 102: by Deb (new)

Deb Huston (debhuston) | 40 comments Nick, as a man of a "certain refined age" I would expect you could refrain from being so negative. If you don't like this thread, you can always move on. SP authors have an uphill battle marketing their work. I find nothing wrong in advertising Facebook or Amazon pages here on GR. The site encourages a supportive environment for authors. I'm going to step out on a limb and suggest you reconsider your approach and allow people to support each other without being ridiculed.

Nick (nickanthony51) | 400 comments Susan and Deb, see message 105.

Deb Huston (debhuston) | 40 comments Nick, obviously I saw message 105 and message 103 and my comment was the result of both. I guess engagement for you amounts to a lack of reflection. You've had your 15 minutes, why do you persist on this thread? Susan is 100% correct. Marketing must include social media to be effective and that means FB, Twitter, Instagram... the list is long.

message 105: by Nick (new)

Nick (nickanthony51) | 400 comments Deb, where have I ever said that SP writers should not use social media or that I was against FB...

Please show me...

Agreed. I started off with a FB page for my first book and then realized that an author's page was the way to go. I still post to my book's page in an attempt to get the Likes to follow to my author's page.

I believe Deb's point was more your negativity to the people who have posted here. "this whole thread is pathetic" "poor taste to beg for likes" and "not good enough to brag about" are insulting. If you have nothing nice to say then stfu.

And another professional response. STFU, very classy...

I too am back tracking to like everyone's pages. I am 10 people away from 100 fans (which unlocks some new things for the page) so I'd appreciate the help getting there!

message 113: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Alerte | 8 comments Question: if you have more than 100 fans on your page, can you still use the page to like someone else's? It seems like people who have liked my page and say it shows that they have on their end don't get added to the count on my end. Does this make sense? Have others encountered this?

message 114: by Deb (new)

Deb Huston (debhuston) | 40 comments Hi Michelle. Facebook has a known bug about the counter and for my page about 6 people have not been added to my page count, even though they show they have "Liked" the page. Interestingly they were all from Goodreads. I've tried contacting FB as have hundreds of others, but to my knowledge the problem has not been fixed :-(

Dennis Byrne (dbyrne1942) | 1 comments Yes, I have a Facebook page for my historical novel. I also have professional and personal Facebook pages, a blog, and a professional website--all set up because "they" say I need them. Can't prove it by me.

Morey | 24 comments Question:

While I'm writing under my real name, I'm using "Mainsail Books" for my publishing company. Probably doesn't matter much for now, but ultimately I want to have the flexibility to use that one umbrella for possible pseudonyms, audiobooks of public domain titles (or other authors with permission), etc.

In the meantime, I'm trying to decide if I should just use my name or the company name for FB and my website/blog. Would it be confusing or counter-productive to use the company name? Unfortunately FB doesn't allow you to change your page's title after a certain number of likes, so I need to decide before I push it too much (which is why I'm not sharing the page here! :) ).

Any thoughts?

All I can say is that the illustration of the black king and queen is great. The colors really creates a magical world.

message 135: by Alice (new)

Alice (asimpson) | 87 comments Initially, when it was recommended I create a separate page on Facebook for my debut novel, I used the book's title, and decided that everything I posted pre-pubication would be related to ballroom dancing. No singing dogs, no strange frogs, no polar bears and definitely no politics. It's been a challenge to post enough and not too much—and tease just a little. I still haven't posted my gorgeous cover. (Real friends search Amazon!) Publication is scheduled for September.
My publisher, Harper (HarperCollins), recommended that I change the page title to "my name comma author" so that, (should I live that long) when my next book is published, I won't need a new page.

While I don't know how many "likes" you mean, I had no problem changing my FB page from my book's title to 'name comma author,' which was, as I wrote above, the recommendation by my publisher.

Alice (asimpson) | 87 comments Holly wrote: "There is too much to go through on this thread, but I always thought it was more clean to just have an author FB fan page instead of just one for every book. I know as a Facebook user, I found it ..."

Holly, I agree with you. Readers follow authors, rather than books or publishers. As writers we need to establish recognition of our names.
An author page is not the place for baby photos, dancing cats and political views, unless those are what your book is about.

message 139: by Charles (new)

Charles Garard (goodreadscomcharles_garard) | 142 comments Good point about baby photos, et. al. I see enough of those on Facebook.

Since others are posting their FB sites, I will do the same: https//www.facebook.com/charles.g.phd

If I am not being too presumptuous, I will post my author page on Amazon as well:

http://www.amazon.com/author/charlesg...

Thanks.

If I am violating rules, I apologize.

message 140: by Charles (new)

Charles Garard (goodreadscomcharles_garard) | 142 comments Are we allowed to add blog sites on here?

What I am dealing with are my three e-books making up the DARK JOURNEYS TRILOGY.

I have seen others post cover photos on here. I didn't know we were allowed to do that -- or how.

Someone told me a year and a half ago that horror novels do well as e-books. So far, you can prove it by me. Maybe my horror or paranormal is not the simplistic slice-and-dice stuff that passed for horror these days. Mine, I have been told, is a little more complex than the usual creature. I am not bragging. I was told this. I would be bragging if I were selling many (maybe). Anyway my blog:

http://virgostone.wordpress.com/2014/...

Why all these numbers, I don't know.

This blog is mainly about paranormal topics, and this includes actual reported experiences, film and book reviews. It is not all supernatural, although I do mention my novels.

general address: http://www.virgostone.wordpress.com

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

I`m going through the list and 'liking' those that look interesting. I will probably buy and read a few too. Here is the link to my book for those who wish to to reciprocate.
