Nick (nickanthony51) | 400 comments Here is a problem I see with a thread like this, it's SP writers supporting SP writers and feeding off each other. While its nice to have a place like this to socialize and get information from other SP writers, its like lemmings following one another into the sea...

Writers need readers, not other no name writers interacting with them. Oh, I know, writers are readers too and its very nice to have a social platform to interact with our fans, but you know, if the message of our work is not getting through to the average reader, then we fail...

Hi Carla I've just liked your page - lovely cover photo by the way - very inviting in terms of attracting people to read your book. Would you mind liking my page please. I've called it Inspiring Ideas ... and it covers my books and music: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Inspir...

Michael | 5 comments Clarence wrote: "Hi everyone: I would like a facebook page for my books, but I need to know how to do that. Actually I am already on facebook; is there any suggestion, please? Thanks!"

Log in to facebook.
Click on the little white cogwheel top right on the blue bar.
Click 'Create Page' in the sub-menu that appears.
Then just fill in the details, load up a cover pic and a profile pic and you're done.

I can see where you are coming from but in this case I have to disagree. As you gain more likes for your facebook page new tools are unlocked, and those tools help you to get your message out to more people (ub particular the non-authors we all want to reach). Swapping facebook likes allowed me to push over the line and access some of those tools so this is definitely worth doing.

message 70: by Gail (new)

Gail Winfree | 2 comments I have my personal profile page and my author page on FB. I can’t handle more than that. I use my own name to avoid confusion. I have 2,246 likes on my author page. I do use that page to promote my works, but I also try to engage visitors by making my page interesting. I like to include anything good, art, videos, photos, music, and my own posts. It’s not just about the writing. It’s about good art. I like too thank those who like my page and be gracious. The numbers are good for getting exposure, but they don't sell books. I rather have quality likes I can develop a relationship with. I've met some really good people and interesting authors, and then there are some, I still don't know what they write. By the way, here is a link to my FB author page for anyone interested http://www.facebook.com/GailLWinfree.

PJ, you must be Patti. Thanks for liking my page. I went over and liked yours as well. A lot of my likes have come from threads and posting my own posts on other writing-related pages. I started with one like, me, almost two years ago. Then I took them one at a time. As I said, though, I prefer quality likes. People who I can interact with. When you start to get a lot of likes, that's more difficult to do.

Hi Carla, I liked your page - your novel looks fascinating.May I ask how you were able to post your 'Giveaway' with cover foto etc. I have tried copying the Goodreads widget but it doesn't seem to work or I'm doing something wrong. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks

Trish (trishdiggins) | 2 comments Yes, we created a Facebook page for our book, "Ladybug Love: 100 Chinese Adoption Match Day Stories", but not a website yet. We also have two author blogs that are just our names.

Have many / any of you done both?

http://www.facebook.com/ladybuglovebook

message 96: by Marlana (new)

Marlana Williams (marlanawilliams) There is too much to go through on this thread, but I always thought it was more clean to just have an author FB fan page instead of just one for every book. I know as a Facebook user, I found it redundant to like an author's book every time one came out, so I stopped doing it.

I think an author should just keep one page under the name they write under, and update it with their work. If they have more than one pen-name, then I think that would be the only time it would make sense to have more than one FB fan page.

Just my opinion, for what it's worth. ;)

message 97: by Nick (new)

Nick (nickanthony51) | 400 comments I have nothing against authors having facebook pages. But I do think its in poor taste to beg for likes. Read back over this thread and see how many members have liked someones thread and then asked for a like back.

Some may call it supporting other self published writers, but the way to support other authors is to buy their books and brag about it, if they are worth bragging about. Of course, many SP books are not good enough to brag about...
