(view spoiler)[ Hm...There's not much really happening? The school drama is fine but not really interesting (mean girls being mean). I like the explanation of how the school came about and that show the headmistress put on for new students. Still not liking Archer one bit!

Oh and I'm feeling many characters don't have a lot of substance. They're playing cardboard cutout roles :S except for Sophie cos we're in her head. (hide spoiler)]

I think the love angle could have been developed throughout the series rather than smack bang instalove, like you said, in the first book.

Like if Sophie didn't really like him (or actually hated him) but realised she might be developing something for him after spending time with him, I would have enjoyed that a whole lot more! Right now, Archer is encouraging flirting like he's not taken and I don't like this one bit (even if Elodie is a b$%^&).

Yep. I love progressing crushes! I don't know why so many books have them bf/gf in the first book of a series. :/ As long as there's a interesting connection, it'll keep me interested.

They speak like Elodie has no feelings and makes fun at her for wanting to give herself to Archer (it seems to be a big deal to Elodie but all Sophie can think about is making Archer notice her at the dance - sigh-) . This kind of sickens me even though Elodie has been nothing but mean and dislikeable. (hide spoiler)]

Thinking back, who thinks cellar duty is a lame punishment? I mean come on, one boy and one girl trapped down there with no supervisor...@_@

Oh and Sophie's gushy feelings towards Archer. Never understood it. Cringing when she went something like 'It wasn't a crush anymore. I loved him'. Suuuure right. How and when did you cross that territory?!

But totally didn't expect Sophie was a demon. Interesting! Hum... the mean girls are wiped out. Serves them freaking right really. Just when I thought Elodie wasn't that bad, she just proves her one-dimensioned-ness. What Archie saw in Elodie is like asking what Sophie saw in Archie? Totally mysterious!

Archie? The eye? How does he explain that one? Why didn't the teachers sense him? Is he that powerful? Why was he nearly crying when he left? So many questions!

I'm guessing since Sophie wants to head to London, she'll bump into Archie. But I don't really care to find out. Probably won't read on :/ (hide spoiler)]

I haven't thought about that but it is true: there so many character that are not importan for the plot!

@Noella, I feel the same about Archie being an spy for The Eye but not about Sophie's cruch. I don't not why but seems right to me the way she felt in love with him...

@Noella "cardboard cutout roles". Exactly! And I totally got that Harry Potter vibe from the big school to the chamber of secrets to the groundskeeper. I honestly thought of him as that guy with the cat from the Harry Potter movie until he opened the door.


All in all not a bad book but not that great either. I don't think I'll be reading any more of that series. I hated most of the characters specially the "mean girls" trio. Elodie most of all was a total b#@$%. There was not one good side to her that would make me like or at least understand her b#@$%iness. I didn't get why Sophie (view spoiler)[ fell in love with Cross specially that we didn't get to see much of their "talks" in the cellar. I felt he wanted to explain something before he escaped but Sophie wouldn't give him a chance. I really wanted to know what he has to say. (hide spoiler)] But that is not nearly enough for me to go on with the rest of the series.

@Noella I pronounce it that way too but I am very unreliable when it comes to that so I thought I'd ask. Sometimes I even misread the word and after like a 100 pages I find out but it's hard to change the way it sounds in my head by then soooo yeah I get it hahaha x)

I've listened to the audiobook, it's pronounced: prodigium, the same way it's spelled.
