John Beachem | 373 comments A question I always enjoy asking about books. Who did you like?

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 916 comments I can't help myself. I like the gangs of thugs. Shikaree in particular is mysterious and interesting, but I like the others too.

I also like Toren and Nalu so far.

Libby | 242 comments I love Faren and Toren - both great characters.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 916 comments Faren's cool too.....and Keras is another good one

I don't dislike Ratel and Calton. They seem ok. I'm just liking the secondary characters more....

Libby | 242 comments Agreed as to Keras as well - I'm thinking there might be more to his background then he is telling and/or knows

John Beachem | 373 comments I'm always a little surprised when people say they like Shikaree, because he's really something of a jerk :-).

Libby | 242 comments Yeah, he was not my favorite; however, due to the horrible things that happened to him I can't help but have sympathy. By the way, well done with the description of his father and the scene w/ the disfiguring fire etc. (don’t want to create too much of a spoiler here) – it gave me chills, very disturbing. Felt like I was there watching.

ahh, but you must remember. I'm a Sandor Clegane fan...

John Beachem | 373 comments LOL, excellent point, Chris. We Sandor fans are an odd lot...

Thanks for the compliment, Libby. Glad that scene worked for you :-).

Tracy Dobbs | 121 comments I really liked Toren. I liked his "detective"(Columbo maybe? One of the TV guys, anyway) vibe.

I also like Keras...and I'm a bit intrigued about his lack of memory of his past.(and a bit suspicious about his "lost" arm)

I liked Ratel better than Calton. Calton's impulsiveness, especially leaving the library with Keras, just really ticked me off.(It's in character, mind you, just annoying).

Leslie Ann (leslieann) | 224 comments I was going to say favorite character by far is Toren, but I've changed my mind. I really like Keras the best. He's the most real to me because of his journal entries. I also am eager to learn why he has this mysterious hole in his memory. I suspect it will somehow get linked to Loradda Stone.

Toren and Faren are next. I really want more details about both these men, especially Faren. He's an effective commander, despite his gruffness. I trust him. Toren is likeable because of his corny first name, his cleverness and his obvious love for Darcies.

The journal entries were an unexpected and fun narration tool - nice look at Keras' perspective

John Beachem | 373 comments Most people have told me they like Toren the best, so it's kind of nice to see some love for poor Keras on here :-). The journal entry chapter is kind of funny, because that's the one I really had to fight my publisher over. They didn't like it at all and thought people wouldn't want to read a long series of journal entries.

Libby | 242 comments It made me think of the correspondence you see in Frankenstein. Not a technique you see used much anymore but I thought it worked well.
