Looking for a book that was new in the late 80s or early 90s. It's about a cat who could see sprites, or gremlins, who played tricks on him and then he got blamed for the hijinx, because the humans couldn't see the sprites, so they blamed the cat. The pictures had lots of 50s touches, like boomerang formica tabletops, etc., and showed the sprites causing all the trouble illustrated "lighter" than the things thehumans could see.
Oh, I think the cat's name (and maybe the book's)may have started with a Q?
