Aisling | 18 comments Hi, I'm Aisling. I used to love reading enormously, but then I did my degree in English Literature and because I had to read for my studies, I went off reading for pleasure. 6 months after graduating, I got back into it with a vengeance though, and now I'm reading more than ever!

message 1203: by Dawn (last edited Jan 16, 2015 08:18AM) (new)

Dawn (njheart2heartdawn) Hi all,
I'm Dawn hailing from NJ, USA. I recently picked up a speed reading book I'd had in my personal library for years. Upon starting it, I realized my reading rate is atrocious! I was an avid reader in my teens and 20s, but in my 30's between marriage (no kids) and the advent of electronic reading- meant for those with attention spans of a gnat- I think my mental reading/comprehension muscles atrophied! Now in my early 40's, in looking through my shelves and trying to eliminate some less priority books so I could fit in more recent purchases, I saw I had SOO many great books in my shelves that I've NEVER read in full! I felt so out of touch with my reading purchases through the years. I'm working through the speed reading exercises and my reading speed and interest is increasing again. I'm starting with a modest reading goal of 25 books this year.

Joan (ashlynne12) | 50 comments Hi folks! I just joined up yesterday. Hoping to find some support and inspiration for keeping up with the books that I read this year. I enjoy reading fantasy the most but will read just about anything that catches my eye.

The Book Junkie Reads . . . (thebookjunkiereads) | 9 comments Hey, I'm Antoinette and I love to read so much that I collect books at an alarming rate I have over 7,000 ebooks and a large at home library of hardback, paperback, and audio books. I primarily love romance (of all sub-genres), chick lit, historical fiction, mystery/suspense/thriller, non-fiction. I love to read.

message 1206: by Diana (new)

Diana | 8 comments Hi, I must have missed this group before as I've done the challenges for a couple of years but not noticed a group about them. So I'll start with hello, I've set myself the target of 35 books this year - mine are all physical tree books and there are an stupid amount of them in our house! I work in a school so read books at lunch time to the class but they don't help remove books from the house, as enjoyable as they are. Most of my books are car boot or charity shop acquisitions but I also win a few. Unless it's something special like Mitch albom or Philippa Gregory I do tend to try and lease them to other readers to enjoy so I can make room for more. The goal is to read and let go of mo than I bring in but that doesn't always pan out. Currently reading a book I won which is really interesting so that will be a keeper to be reread and the other is one at school so not. Looking like I'm decreasing any so far.
Thanks for the group I'll pop back to update and may even be brave enough to have a count up!

message 1207: by Mary-jo (new)

Mary-jo | 18 comments Hi to everyone! I'm Mary Jo and I'm from Maryland, USA. I love to read and I think the idea of this 2015 challenge is just the inspiration I needed to go out try books I may never have thought of choosing. I'm reaching out to some of my "reading" friends to see if they'll join me and hope they'll consider it. My target is 52 books, one a week. Looking forward to book discussions and recommendations!

message 1208: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 39 comments Hello there! My name is Cathy & I'm very glad to join this group & kick off my year of reading! I currently have a goal to read 30 books (but this number might go up if I keep reading like I have been this month!). I like to read just about anything and am focusing on adding more nonfiction books to my list this year.
Glad to be here!

message 1209: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne | 8 comments Hello, all! I am Adrienne. I will read just about anything; mysteries, autobiographies, YA, cereal boxes...

message 1210: by Cami (new)

Cami Hello everyone! I'm Cami, a 24-year-old Finnish girl from the Arctic Circle. I love reading, but during the last few years I've read less than usual. So, to notch up my reading habits I've joined this group! Wish me luck! I read fantasy, sci-fi, some YA and other books that catch my attention. My most liked genres have been changing for a while now, so it seems I have to find something new. I'm mostly a sporadic reader; I might not read even a book in months and then in a week I'll suddenly read ten. This year my target is 50, but I'll maintain the right to add to it. ;) I'd also like to take up at least one book that's being read in the group and discuss it with everyone, since I've never done that before. Hope to have fun!

message 1211: by Mary-jo (new)

Mary-jo | 18 comments Welcome and good luck, Cami!

message 1212: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (crescentgaia) Hi everyone! I'm Liz and sort of found this group through randomly strolling through the links for groups. :) I'm trying to get back into reading with reading 50 books this year and I felt a group might help me with that. I went looking through the challenges a bit and it seems like a lot of fun. I put a hold on the book for next month through my library Kindle's loan program and fingers crossed I get it!

And yes, you'll see me using a lot of Kindle / e-book editions because it's easier on my eyes. I've got an eye condition that makes me legally blind and I'm trying not to go more so. ;)

message 1213: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissaccabrera) Hi, I'm Melissa and I don't know how to introduce myself...

message 1214: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne | 8 comments Melissa, you just did. ;)

message 1215: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylkahla) Hi, I'm Cheryl from Johannesburg, South Africa. I have a website that is very neglected, and might fill it this year with writing and reviews (www.cherylwrites.com)

I read a wide variety of books, from autobiographies and dystopian to sci-fi and fantasy. I've set my goal at 50 books for 2015 and it covers a lot of Christopher Hitchens, Chuck Palahniuk, JRR Tolkien and Jk Rowling.

I have just finisher (Don't You) Forget About Me, which is a mind f*** of a book, and currently busy with another weird and wonderful book: 1Q84.

Besides reading and writing, I love:
Cats - Have 2
Tattoos - Have 8
Piercings - 2 lips rings
Art, music and martial arts (Not practicing anything at the moment though, but did Krav Maga a while back.)

I think that covers it? Ask, if I left anything out. :)

message 1216: by Rachelle (new)

Rachelle Hello everyone, I'm Rachelle, I'm 18 years old and live in Sydney Australia. I love reading, and I always have a book on me. I like reading young adult, fantasy and autobiographies. I've set a goal for 50 books this year. Looking forward to meeting some new people :)

message 1219: by Allie (new)

Allie | 1 comments Hey I'm Allie, I am open to reading anything but I enjoy historical fiction and fantasy novels. I hope to read 20 books this year but with college I don't know how likely that will be, anyway I will try my hardest!

message 1221: by Louise (new)

Louise | 245 comments Hi, I'm Louise. Just joined the group but have been doing the generic goodreads book challenge for a few years now. Am staring to set my own vague personal goals now as well (e.g. x no classics/nonfiction/women writers per year in addition to x no books overall), so this seemed like as good a place as any to keep track. Also seems like the group has some interesting challenges of it's own.

message 1222: by Ronda (new)

Ronda Nichols | 691 comments I'm Ronda... I'm a high school teacher, realtor, mother of three girls and a "dance mom" (but not the crazy kind). I read whenever I can and my daughters are pretty awesome about reading too!

message 1226: by Dina (new)

Dina (geekymom) | 2 comments Hi I'm Dina. I'm a books enthusiast. The books I've read so far are mostly literature, biographies and only a few of them are selfhelp guide books.

Reading is my escapism, and it is always nice to be around others whose take on reading as something fun.

Hello!

message 1227: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Tubbs (crystal2305) Hi! My name is Crystal :) I hope to become an active member this year in GR and I hope this group will help. I love fiction. Any fiction. Last year was my kids fiction kick. This year I hope to read more broadly...get out of the fiction range in general. We'll see! I plan to read a minimum of 52 books- so there's room to wiggle.
I look forward to conversations with everyone, and good luck to all in their own personal reading challenges.
~Crystal

message 1231: by Kris (new)

Kris Zimmerman (madkz) | 18 comments Hello to the group!
I am Kris, 40 year old "dude" from Wisconsin, who loves to read, and loves all sorts of other things as well, like sports, cooking, movies, family time (married with 2 boys)....so it's tough to stay committed to read constantly. Hope to stay motivated, since my tastes are pretty varied, and my enthusiasm for what to read changes constantly (I am easily swayed by a random find or a good recommendation...or a story on the news, or a wandering thought...)

Hope to have fun this year, and maybe, hopefully, have some good discussions.

penneminreads Hello all! My name is Astrid, I'm from Vienna, Austria, and I'm 28 years old. After a phase of reading too few books (esp. as a literature major) I've finally rediscovered my love for books, so this year I'm doing my first reading challenge, aiming at reading at least 52 books in 2015.

I'm looking forward to interesting discussions, recommendations and new authors :)

message 1235: by Colin (last edited Jan 22, 2015 10:59AM) (new)

Colin | 2 comments Heyo, I'm Colin from Jena, somewhere in Germany, and I'm a 21-year-old who, despite having always loved to read when younger, has not really been reading much for several months now. Having discovered Goodreads and this challenge a few days ago, I decided to try and read at least twelve books this year, one a month -- and lo and behold, it's only been a few days and I've already read seven of those, and rediscovered my former love of reading in the process.

Well, overshooting a little hasn't ever hurt anyone, has it? :)

message 1236: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Tubbs (crystal2305) Congrats on reading over half your goal already, Colin!

message 1240: by Rich (new)

Rich Ivett (richtbiscuit) | 1 comments Hi,

I'm Rich. I read a wide range of books from the Classics to crime fiction and do like a series that I can get into. Currently I'm part way through Donna Leon's Brunetti series, Patrick O'Briens Aubrey/Maturin books & the Maigret series. I also adore Wilkie Collins who I think is far superior to Dickens not least because he has wonderfully strong female characters.

My top recommendations for crime series that I've read would be the Martin Beck novels and the Inspector Sejer series by Karin Fossum.

I've also just finished reading Alan Lemay's The Searchers which was Ray Winstone's book to take to the island on Desert Island Discs. Wonderful and even better than the film as it more accurately reflects the true story that lay behind it.

Kathryn (katreadinglist) | 49 comments Hi! I am Kathryn. I am trying to get back into reading. I love it but I just never make the time to read and relax anymore. I and hoping to this year.

message 1242: by [deleted user] (new)

Hej.
I am Nina and I am from Frankfurt, Germany. I read books of nearly every genre. Since I have been in a huge reading slump I plan to read at least 3 books per month. I just don't want to put too much pressure on reading.
For january I still have to read 1 1/2 books but I think I can make it.
