Book: The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan
Date Finished: Oct 12
Rating: 3 stars
REVIEW:
I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. The humor/sarcasm in this book felt too much to me somehow. There were a lot of stupid decisions made.
After saving the world from Set in the previous book, Sadie, Carter and team must now save the world from Apophis. Just when Sadie gets a chance to save the wrold and defeat Apophis, Sadie leaves everything to return to London to celebrate her birthday with her friends. End of the world? Surely, that can wait till Sadie has finished her celebrations and reunions, right?
Another chance comes when the find the last scroll, but Carter leaves everything to go save his (Almost girlfriend? Imaginary girlfriend? Hopefully girlfriend?) Zia ( who may not really remember him, since it was her ghost her spoke to at the end of the previous book). Again, who cares about the end of the world, right?
I do not like this budding Anubis/Sadie/Walt love triangle too.
While the scenes in this book individually taken were indeed fun, as a complete picture it just didn't work for me. But then, I read Riordan's books just for the mythology in them. In that aspect, this book does succeed.

Book: Nice Dragons Finish Last by Rachel Aaron
Date Finished: Oct 16
Rating: 5 STARS!
REVIEW:
This book has some elements of Urban Fantasy, Futuristic/Dystopia, some traces of Mythology, and of course, Dragons!
Heartstriker is the largest Dragon clan in the world. There's Bethesda, Heartstriker Clan Head and Julius's mother, who seems more villainous than the actual villain. There's Chelsie, who is pissed-off most of the time, what with being Bethesda's shade and the one who keeps Heartstrikers in line. There Brohomir aka Bob, the Great Seer of Heartskriker. There are numerous brother and sister dragon in Heartskriker. And then there's Julius. Julius, according to his mother (and everybody else in Heartstriker) is a very poor excuse for a dragon. He is actually NICE- oh the horror! He doesn't manipulate people, he doesn't use them as pawns, he has no arrogant bone in his body, he has no interest in rising to the top in any venture or acquiring wealth or position or power. He has been good at running away from his clan and hiding in his own home, playing game( which he doesn't even win, according to his angry mother) and learning courses online.
Frustrated, Bethesda seals Julius' dragon and sends him to Detroit Free Zone(DFZ), known as Detroit before the comet strike and great magic wave of 2035. She threatens to eat him (and she really really means it) if he doesn't prove his worth as a dragon soon. Since dragons do nothing for free, he does not even money or clothes. Julius is given a task of apprehending the runaway dragon Katya of Three Sisters Dragon Clan within a day. He meets Marci Novalli, our spunky and 'not-so-nice' heroine and Thaumaturgical Mage. Soon, the simple task of finding Katya becomes complicated due to Bethesda's Machiavellian plans, the seers' sinister interference, and Marci's pursuers' dangerous villainy. How is a nice dragon and a not so nice mage going to stay alive through all this?
I LOVED this book so much! Rachel Aaron has managed to provide just the right amount of everything- enough to appreciate and enjoy them, and not too much that it gets boring or monotonous. Apart from being an underdog hero, Julius is also a good person..er, dragon. I loved Marci and Katya too. Oh, and Bob and Chelsie are interesting characters.
The world building in this book is simply wonderful. The plot is perfect. The protagonists Julius and Marci are totally awesome in their own way. And then there are seers, who decidedly rule this book. Oh, and Dragons. Mages. Dangerous Magical Creatures. Magic-Eating Monsters. Need I say more?
This book is definitely among one of my top favorite books read this year. I'm definitely going to read One Good Dragon Deserves Another soon.

It's been a long time since I've read a detective mystery and this was a great book to jump back into the genre. I love Jack. She's smart and snarky. She also ha s a great relationship with her partner Herb.
The story also dips into the POV of the serial killer calling himself the "Gingerbread Man". Pretty creepy. What he does to his victims.... *shiver*

I loved Sam and her crew. Eventhough she tried to do what was best she never seemed to be able to catch a break. Always from bad situation to a worse one. I enjoyed learning about the witches different abilities. It was a short fast paced read. I can't wait to continue on with this series to see what happens next.

I saw the movie years ago so I didn't remember much outside the basics when I read this. I think I'm going to be freaking out every time I feel something brush me for the next month! Creep factor is at an all time high! I have learned some valuable traveling lessons though...
Rule #1: When in a foreign country, do not hang out with people you can't communicate with.
Rule #2: Do not agree to go looking for lost siblings when in said foreign country.
Rule #3: Do not go to some mysterious ruins who's only directions are handwritten.
Rule #4: When the locals freak out on you, waving guns and arrows...GO BACK TO THE BEACH!
Hahaha. Wonderful review Sunshine! I remember reading this book after watching the movie too and if I remember correctly, the book was very creepy.
I seem to remember vowing NEVER to re-read this book again:D

I'm finding it hard to get into my Reader's Choice. I HATE Declan, the hero(okay, hero is too nice a word for him... Better to go with just MC). I have no idea how the author is going to redeem him. I can only take in so much pages of the book at one time, before reading some other book for a breather. But I'm determined to finish this book, just so I could move on in the series...
I am wavering between
and
(which despite the horrible cover is said to be a pretty good Suspense/Thriller)
Not sure which among the two I am going to read for the Coupledom shelf.

Review: I really enjoyed this start to a new series. Three sisters, three witches, three powers. Great fast paced read. Good mystery to solve with the comradery of sisterhood, love and humour to sweeten the pot. Very enjoyable. The dialogue was fun too.
In Everland, a world of witches and more, magic is important. What powers you get determines your path. Honora can levitate, so she can fly. Clover is a writer who has a bestselling witchy series. And Vivi, the middle child, brews potions. Vivi has been hiding a secret from even her own family. She can see visions of what is to come. For years she has suppressed it out of fear that she will go crazy like the other witches with this ability has. Until one day, she can't suppress it anymore because her vision told her about a witch that will be killed. Like a good witch, she wants to help save this poor witch. But she faces quite a few problems.
The Hex Division, an witch government agency, doesn't want her meddling in the investigation. Heck, they don't even believe she can see visions since Vivi has NEVER said or showed that she could before. Not only that, the handsome sheriff of Willow Realm tries to believe her, but doesn't want her to get harmed. Even though the chemistry sizzles between two of them, he can't do much for her. He tries his best to balance his duty by solving this case for her and protecting her from harm or trouble. So, she decides to do it all on her own, asking her sisters for back up as she dives into this strange case to stop the murderers.
Will definitely be looking for the next in the series.

Title: Flip That Haunted House by Rose Pressey
Date read: October 27

Review
Alabama has gone from job to job not settling on one thing. She thinks she needs at least one success to make herself and her parents proud so she goes into flipping houses. I really loved Alabama and her friends. She got herself into so much trouble but was able to get out of it eventually. I hated Sheriff Bass he did everything he could not to do his job when it pertained to Alabama. The mysteries were interesting.

Even though there is a big time gap from the last book, it doesn't loose any pace. Soooo, fast forward 12 years.... and, Yay! It's time to bind Granuaile and make her an official Druid! Of course, being that Atticus is a thorn in any Pantheon's side, this doesn't get to go as easy as it should. It's pretty much out that Atticus is alive so between fending off those who want to kill him, and those who demand his help, three months of peace is too much to ask.
Lots of action in this one. Between Dark Elves dressed as clowns, the same old (pun intended) Vampires, Bacchus and his Bacchants, and other various Greek/Roman/Norse/Celtic Gods, Atticus, Granuaile, and Oberon are constantly on the run. It all leads up to finally fighting in Ragnarok.
But, oh, it doesn't end there! Freak'n cliff hangers!!!

Book: Insanity (Mad in Wonderland) by Cameron Jace
Date Finished: Oct 28
Rating: 5 STARS!
REVIEW:
This book is a bizarre retelling of Alice's Adventures Under Ground. Wonderland creatures are monsters who are trapped in Wonderland by the imcomparable Lewis Carroll himself. Yet there are some Wonderlanders who have blended well as humans. Especially the Cheshire Cat, who could not be trapped in Wonderland and is out killing several girls and leaves them with a smile sewn on their faces. There is a wonderland war afoot... And Alice, the only one who can stop this, is mad and is a patient of the Radcliff Lunatic Asylum. She doesn't have any memory of wonderland at all. Luckily, as the Cheshire Cat says, 'We're all mad here', and the only way to counteract the madness is by insanity and nonsense. This book is so mad, its wonderful.
What is real, and what is not?
What is sane and what is insane?
We are left with these questions till the very end. This book keeps us on our toes. The way to enjoy this story is to... embrace the insanity.
I loved this book so much! I can't wait to read Figment to know what the heck is happening!
Some favorite quotes from this book:
+"It's time insanity has a role model."
+"If you've survived parasites and bacteria until the age of nineteen, you can survive sane people."
+"If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there."
+ "Did you you ever notice if you promise the possible, people won't believe you?"
+"On a scale of one to insanity, how insane are you?"

I've had this book sitting on my shelf for a while. Sounds great! I'll have to check it out soon!
You should definitely give this book a try. I had it in my TBR and my Kindle even for more than a year. Good thing I decided to read it now. It was so bizarre and crazy..... I liked it a lot :D
The beginning was a bit slow.... It was more about setting the mood and the basis for the story. But then it began to become better. As I said, you should definitely give it a try.

I really enjoyed this book it was funny and had me laughing quite a few times. Loved how loyal and close the Seaside Friends were. The chemistry between Bella and Caden was great. Loved all the Seaside Friends, Caden and Evan I hope to learn more about them as the series continues.

Pride Mates by Jennifer Ashley
Finished Nov 1 2015
Rating: 5 stars
Review:
I loved this story. It is the first in the Shifters Unbound series.
Kim is a lawyer who is defending a Shifter in the murder of his human girlfriend. She meets Liam & Sean for interviews and is attracted to Liam who is a shifter. The Shifters have been placed in towns & collared for their protection. Shifter culture is different from what humans have been led to believe. Kim as she falls in love with Liam and his family is starting to realize that this is what she has been searching for to fulfill her life.
The writing was great, I really got caught up in the story and all the sub plots. The characters felt so real and the world building of the history of the Shifters was excellent. Definitely continuing with the series.

Something from the Nightside
Finished: nov 1/2015

review: that was some kind of twisted bizarre tale. I loved it. john Taylor is a PI and returns to the Nightside. A twisted wild place he left 5 years ago. Returning with a client to find a teenager that ran away. There is a parallel world to London, where anything is possible.
There are strange characters and creatures. A really good twisted story with an ending that surprised me. Was darkly delicious and snarky.

The beginning was great. Some goofiness and romance then moved into a little action.... then someone dies. The next 70% of the book was a mix of make-out sessions, declarations of love and grief counseling. Where's the story? The big action/fight scene at the end seemed outta place. There was no real build up to it and the cliff hanger at the end?!?! I alllllmost want to pick up the next book to find out what the hell is going on, but....nope.
