On the Edge (The Edge, #1) by Ilona Andrews by Ilona Andrews
Finished: 9/4/15
Rating: ★★★★★

I LOVED this book. I'll admit, I totally judged it by it's cover and hemmed and hawed about reading it. The MC, Rose, is a strong, independent woman, but not an annoying one that does what she wants when she wants just cause someone said she shouldn't do it. Life taught her a harsh lesson but it didn't turn her bitter. Her family, what's left of it, means everything to her and she does her best for them. Declan is the haughty Blueblood, but he's not the strong man that is damaged inside and only that special one can save him. He is capable, smart and thinks!

Rose lives in the Edge. The middle ground between the Broken (our world) and the Weird (kinda like our world but with magic and the like). A big sense of someone's power is how bright they flash. A weak flash is red. Most Edgers are about a green. Rose flashes white. Declan is from the Weird. He comes stumbling along to Rose's house with the intent to marry her. Just another Blueblood out to either sell her or breed her himself with the intent of having strong offspring. Being an Edger, a halfbreed, she can't really be accepted with the nobles of the Weird, so her life, for all intents and purposes, would be forfeit. Rose will not go willingly and Declan wont back down.

I CAN NOT wait to read the next book!

Review
Lissa is a vampire princess and her best friend Rose is training to be her guardian. They have to deal with vampire politics and High School. I loved how strong Rose and Lissa's friendship was and what lengths they would each go to just to protect each other. They story was pretty fast paced and held my attention. I can't wait to continue on with this series.

Review:
What a fun start to a series. This was a retelling of the fairy tale Cinderella. Quite while done interesting twists. The series is about a demon, vampire, werewolf, angel and a god. Each story will be a fairytale retelling. This one was about Prince Etienne - a werewolf and his search for a bride. Loupe is the step daughter of a terrible woman. The stepmother hunts and kills wolves. Loope has been bitten by one of the wolves who was still alive and every full moon she shifts. Prince Etienne is a from a family of born werewolves and is in search of a mate. Very well done.

Maggie for Hire (Maggie MacKay, Magical Tracker, #1) by Kate Danley
Book: Maggie for Hire by Kate Danley
Date Finished: Sep 4
Rating: 3 stars
REVIEW:

I'm glad I finally read this book. It had been sitting in my TBR for so long!

One thing I really liked about this book is that it is pure Urban Fantasy. No PNR mix, which quit honestly, is rare to come by these days. It has a mix of supes, another favorite type of mine. I also enjoyed all the dimension-jumpings. Interesting concept.

However, I had two major issues with this book.
1. The hero. ( I am using this term loosely here.) The hero was nothing more than a prop. He did nothing on his own. The heroine Maggie says fight, he fights... She asks him to drive her to somewhere he does. She asks him to .... You get the picture. He is of course, the first one to get injured in a fight and he constantly needs super badass Maggie's help. Not. Impressed.

2. The plot. While I enjoyed the story as a whole, the plot felt vague and confusing at times.

Since this is the first book, I am Willing to make allowances. I hope the series gets better in the next books. I will definitely read the next book.

Restless Spirits (Spirits, #1) by Jordan L. Hawk
Book: Restless Spirits by Jordan L. Hawk
Date Finished: Sep 6
Rating: 5 stars
REVIEW:

I loved this book. Since this is Jordan Hawk's book, I went in expecting to fully enjoy it. And I did.

The whole Science Vs. Spiritualism and Man Vs. Machine concept was very interesting. Henry Strauss, along with his partner and cousin Jo has designed an Elextro-Seance machine that would detect and eradicate ghosts. But they are mocked in the psychic club and are not taken seriously. So when a letter arrives from a wealthy gentleman proposing a contest between them(science) and another duo who are mediums (spiritualism) to get rid of a ghost haunting the gentleman's valuable property, they are more than thrilled. Mediums are nothing but frauds in his opinion!

Vincent Night and Miss. Elizabeth Devereaux mediums extraordinaire , receive an incitation from a mysterious gentleman proposing a contest to get rid of ghosts. Vincent had been possessed by a vicious ghost which killed his mentor some month back. Since then he has been afraid to do his job. But since the reward offered was $500, a hefty sum, the duo agree to it.

Of course when all four arrive in the mansion, they find that not all is as it appears to be.
The discrimination against black people in those days is also beautifully portrayed in this book not impersonally in a society as a whole but very personally as faced by Henry's cousin Jo who is surprising to all, black skinned.

And of course, there is the best aspect of this book ghosts and spookiness. Jordan Hawk has a way with words that makes it difficult for us to stop reading the book.

I am convinced that Jordan Hawk is indeed the Queen of Paranormal Horror!

I can't wait for the next book in the series Dangerous Spirits to be released next week!

The Mind Readers by Lori Brighton
The Mind Readers by Lori Brighton

Finished September 10 2015
4 stars

Review:
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. A YA series about a girl named Cameron who has the ability to read minds. Her parents were killed and she lives with her Grandmother since she was 5. Her Grandmother has the ability as well and in order for people not to find them they are always on the move.
Cameron meets another kid her age at school whose mind she cant read and finds out that he too can read minds. Lewis persuades Cameron to leave her Grandmother and to come to a training facility where other kids who have the same abilities are being trained. Reminds me of a young bunch of XMen kids. There is an organization that is trying to locate the kids and the leader of the group Aaron is not being 100% truthful with them.
Good action not too over the top and of course the last few paragraphs left me hanging for the rest of the series.

Finished: 9/10/15

Atticus is trying to take off and stay hidden for the next decade or so so he can complete Granuaile's training in peace, but before he goes, he has to complete his favor owed to Coyote. Tricked is a perfect name for this book, because Coyote has one after another up his sleeve. Atticus isn't completely his happy-go-lucky self this time around, but there was still some laugh-out-loud moments. Seriously. I would laugh out loud and then have to read what was so funny to whoever was lucky enough to be sitting next to me. :)

Review: This was book 7.25 in the Shifters Unbound series by Jennifer Ahsley. I really connected with the characters and enjoyed it very much. Seamus is a lion shifter and is running from being captured by hunters. Bree is a shifter groupie recently moved to Austin texas. They meet when he jumps in her pick up and has her take him away from a murder. She believes he didn't commit the murders and takes him to her home. More shifters come and find them and then take them to a Shiftertown where they have to decide if they will stay or will they go.

Rack & Ruin (THIRDS, #3) by Charlie Cochet
Book: Rack & Ruin by Charlie Cochet

REVIEW:

Several significant things happen in this book. Dex and Sloane's relationship is finally heading somewhere. Dex lets it slip accidentally slip that he loves Sloane; and of course, Sloane bolts. And then he comes back. Ash and Cael's, Calvin and Hobbs's relationship also undergo changes too. Destructive Delta team members are each facing some sort of personal challenges. The Coalition is escalating their attacks, and THIRDS is no closer to apprehending them than they are to finding more about the Order. Most worrying of all, they have to find who the mole in their organization is, and fast, before all is lost.

As with other Charlie Cochet's books, this book too was a roller-coaster of emotions. This is one series where I definitely will not read the next book in the series immediately after this one- reading this book has left me drained emotionally!

I loved how the intimidated Angel Reyes- showing off their collective shifter strength! That was an awesome scene. And Ash! I will say no more other than 'I knew it!'.

I will read the next book in the series - Rise & Fall pretty soon!

It also cracks me up how simple the names are. The bad guys are a letter in the alphabet (Mr. O) and the heroes are a tough word with an "h" thrown in. (Rhage) :-D
