I think that will be the next book I read. I have been reading a very intense child murder mystery and need to get back to something not so intense.

I've just read
, which is book 1 of the Ascension series. I didn't read book 2, as I realized that Ascension series happens after her Descent series, which should be read before these.
In fact almost all of SM Reine's series are interconnected and contains spoilers for the other series.
So, the reading order would be
1.Seasons of the Moon series, Preternatural Affairs series
2.Descent Series
3.Ascension series
4.War of the Alphas series, Tarot Witches series.
I am enjoying her Preternatural Affairs series though. Cesar Hawke is such an interesting hero!

Shelf #2: A Bloody Mess

Book: Blood & Thunder by Charlie Cochet
Date Finished: July 29
Rating: 5 stars
REVIEW:
I loved Hell & High Water a lot. So I was very scared to read this book, to be honest. I hoped I would not be disappointed. I didn't know why I even worried. This is Charlie Cochet's book after all! This book was as awesome as its predecessor!
From the blurb:
This particular line had me panicking. I kept waiting for some unbearable misunderstandings between them, some sort of angst, cheating, betraying, fight... something drastic. I kept waiting and waiting... It never came. At least, it was not as drastic as I feared it would be.
Apparently, I missed one important factor- Agent Dexter J.Daley. Dex is very faithful, loyal, smart, funny, emotional and knows exactly what silly antics to do to relieve people's stress. He uses humour both as a weapon to lighten the atmosphere, and as a shield, to prevent the world from seeing that he was hurt. He is a good friend, a wonderful brother, and patient lover. Sigh! I'm Team Dex all the way!
I loved the scene where Dex saves Calvin and Hobbs from being caught!
And you've just got to appreciate the Dexisms. Here are some examples of those:
"..Dex had seen some pretty stupid shit in his time, but this one was right up there with the guy who tried to steal his patrol car with him in it back when he'd been an HPF rookie..."
Ha Ha Ha.
"Ash was so deep in the closet, he was taking Aslan's place in Narnia."
This is one of the best metaphors I've ever read till date!
I also see a lot of potential for possible couples - Cael & Ash, Calvin & Hobbes, Hudson & Seb...
The story was also pretty interesting, but it was the world-building and the characters which blew me away... Or blew me strongly into Team Dex.
I can say a lot about this book and this series, but I think it would suffice to say, I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! A LOT!!!

Title:The Crawling Darkness
Date read: August 2
Rating: 4 stars
Review
Ellie is a paranormal investigator with a traumatic past. She works very hard to help families feel safe in their homes. I loved this book Ellie and her apprentice Stacey are starting to have a closer friendship. I enjoyed Michael and Melissa and hope to see more of them. I liked how the investigation wrapped up. I'm definitely continuing with the series as of right now there is only four books.

I was disappointed in this book. I wasn't expecting it to be YA. That just brought the teenage drama/love triangles I get annoyed at reading. Really... Matthew likes Lianna, who likes Chase, who likes Mason, who likes Trent, who likes Eve. Ugh!
Even besides the YA, which is a personal preference of uninterest, there was so much wrong with the story. When the lights are out in the house, it is so dark that Eve can't see the person behind Trent, but they saw Matthew's eyes open when they woke him up? All the downstairs glass windows and doors are made of bulletproof glass you can't break but Eve smashed through just because she was in panic mode? The prologue sets the story up as a serial killer who is killing to recreate the rush, but to me, I found the killer(s) to be more deranged then thrill-seeking.

Sunshine sorry to hear you are not enjoying your book."
My bad. Having to look for a 2015 threw me off. LOL. I went for the first $.99 book that sounded interesting. :)
Shelf #3: Happy Birthday

Book: Ashes and Arsenic by S.M. Reine
Date Finished: Aug 1st
Rating: 4 stars
RATING:
I enjoyed this book. I'm so glad we're back to Cesar's POV in this book.
With Fritz Friederling, Cesar's boss away temporarily, Cesar is temporarily put as the head of the Magical Violations Department. He wants to sit back, relax, and take it easy. So he chooses what he hopes will be a simple, straight-forward job- a bank robbery.
Being Cesar, things start to go wrong almost immediately, of course! His brother Domingo seems to be the one who robbed the bank. Add in a coven fight to the mix and sudden rituals throughout Los Angeles where people end up being dead. Even more frustratingly for poor Cesar, Suzy and Aniruddha(really?) have being dating for almost six months without him being the wiser. All-in-all, it's non stop action for Cesar in this book.
I loved Cesar's grandfather. And why does Suzy and Aniruddha dating all of a sudden seem very fishy?
After the disappointment that was the previous book, I'm so glad this book is back in action. I can't wait for the next book to be released!

I've just read [bookcover:Sacrificed in Shadow|1..."
I was thinking of starting with the Descent Series I wasn't aware of her books being connected. I might just read the first books of Descent Seasons of the Moon And Preternatural Affairs and go from there.

Review: OMGosh. Awesome. Nalini certainly has an awesome start to a new series (to me). Loved it. The girl can write some steamy shower scenes. I was so wrapped up in this story. I love the world. The good with the bad of the vampires and the angels. Sandra I will need to read another in the series to see if it bumps psy-changling. I loved the gritty and gruesome scenes and the angel love yumm.

Shelf #4: Series Catch-Up

Book: Magic Shifts by Ilona Andrews
Date Finished: Aug 10th
Rating: 5 stars
RATING:
SPOILER WARNING: DON'T OPEN THE SPOILER TAG IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK ALREADY! I MEAN IT! DON'T!
Ilona Andrews duo never disappoint. This book was everything one could hope for in a Kate Daniels book- some Kate-snark, humor, different monsters and creepy villains, family time, adventure... you have it all here.
This book takes Kate and Curran in a new direction- no longer the Beast Lord and Consort. They are more focused on their family and settling down in their new house. Julie is growing pretty well as a character. She is growing up into a mini-Kate! It is also pretty awesome to see Curran the person rather than Curran the Beast Lord. There were some spectacular moments in this story(view spoiler)
While this story is on itself well developed, it did still feel like it was building upto the future books. There are many loose ends here (view spoiler) While that ending (view spoiler) was a total cliffhanger, what intrigued me about this book was Kate's musing toward the end.
"Sometimes, when the power of one's enemy is very vast, all one can try to do is to contain it."
This sentence opens up interesting ideas towards how Kate might end up facing Roland.
While, I was not as 'wowed' by this book as some of the other books in this series, this book was pretty great too! As always, I can't wait for the next book.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Kate Daniels is one of my favorite series ever. The first two are a bit heavy on the world building, but the series is pretty awesome. Do read it soon.
