MEOW Space
Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews
Finished: September 10, 2015
Series: Kate Daniels, #2
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Number of pages: 260
Review: Still not connecting to this series yet. I can see the potential, but just "flat" for me.
See Kate. See Kate in desperate battle after battle. See Kate pursue murky clues stingingly doled out. See characters sniffing around to get in Kate's pants (none do). See Kate and others in more desperate battles with desperate wounds and fatalities. See all gear up for big dire battle to save the world against yet another new supernatural menace. See a few sappier moments, particularly some death scenes. A couple of humorous bits and a nice ending with Beastlord Curran sporadically showing a softer side just for Kate.

Last stamp request will get us 4-of-9 for middle "/" pattern; this week's shelf call is a potential 4-of-9 for leftmost "\" pattern.

I don't actually dislike them. And there were a couple of likable moments. Just not into it yet.

Thank you. It was what I could come up with.

Review: Jase Karys has been held by the demons for the last six years. Kane Karys - middle brother, logical scientist, goes off in search of the female demon destroyer he has sensed who can aid in getting his brother back. What is a logical scientist to do when he is presented with a gorgeous female who knows nothing about their world or her capabilities?? I loved watching Kane wrestle with his logical analytical mind against a good natured vegan pacifist and can a pacifist help save the day? Amber Freebird gave as good as she got as well. Grandma Freebird had some 'splaining to do, lol. We get a glimpse into the lives of most of the old couples in this installment. We see where Janie is at as well although I don't really see what she is playing at yet with both Kalin and Zane. I really can't wait for Janie's book ......but I'm going to have to!!

Jane is somewhat settling into her life in New Orleans. She has a job that pays well, even though Leo isn't quite himself yet. She has a boyfriend, the sexy Ricky Bo, and things are good between them. And she has a mentor of sorts, Aggie One Feather, helping her learn her Cherokee heritage. But of course things go very wrong and it's up to Jane to put the pieces together and save everyone, if she can.
The Weres have come out on national television showing the change. If that's not big enough news, the Werewolves are in town and accusing Leo of murder. Ricky Bo is deep undercover and it looks like trouble in Paradise, or is it more than that? The vamps are having a power struggle- and Jane is smack dab in the middle of it all.
Without giving too much away, I will say that a lot happens in this book. Jane meets not only werewolves but werepanthers and a couple of other unidentified Supes. There's a murder that escalates the tension between all groups and Evangelina is up to something. Her relationship with Ricky Bo is put to a test and the sexual attraction to Bruiser heats up! Beast is such a Slut, lol. Jane also learns more Vamp/Were history and even a little bit about herself. Not enough though and I hope she takes the advice about finding her cave. In the end, nobody comes out unscathed and Jane has decided it's time to go home. Will she? I don't know because there was a nugget of a cliffhanger with Ricky Bo. I really want to dive into the next book right now!

Blood Trade by Faith Hunter
Date finished: 9/12/2015
Rating: ★★★1/2
Review: Quite enjoyable read. Lots of action in this installment with the vampire hunting taking place in Mississippi. Both Jane's love interests are present but nothing much happens on that front. Jane has a lot of regrets and is quite emotional. It was nice to see Jane;s team bonding.

Tall, Dark & Lonely by R.L. Mathewson
Date finished: 9/18/2015
Rating: ★★★
Review: I don't know how to rate this book because it was really weird.
First of all, it had nothing to do with the other series of R.L. Mathewson "Neighbor from Hell", which I enjoyed. It was PNR but the paranormal element was not the focus and wasn't very clearly explained.
Secondly, there were several plot changes and many ridiculous/WTF/eye-rolling situations. I think the author tried to have it all in this story, i.e. problematic family, vampires, action, blackmail, humor, cute hero, controlling hero, hot sex, etc. I admit, all these elements made the story unique.
I liked Madison at the beginning, not so much later, I didn't like Ephraim, but Chris, the troublemaker student of Madison, stole the show.
I don't know whether I'll continue reading this series, maybe if I need the next book for a challenge, especially since it's Chris' book.

Hmmm, I'm not sure what happened here. I love this series and have rated most of them 5 stars. After reading this one though, I'm left feeling disappointed and confused because surely I missed something...

After Queen Windermere's seneschal is elf-shot, Toby and the gang head to the Kingdom of Silences on a diplomatic mission. This is not a position that Toby is particularly good at because she has a tendency to muck things up. Fae politics are tricky and every word spoken has the potential to cause war, insult, death and any number of things. Toby and politics don't mesh well and it usually ends up with her being almost killed- same old, same old.
The thing is, this read more like a novella- a filler book. It was missing a few key components. There was very little Luidaeg mojo, little blood magic which is Toby's power, no Sylvester or any of the other side characters that aren't part of her everyday life, no important history lesson about First Born or Toby's powers, just some politics and some alchemy. I'm not even sure where the story arc is going anymore. *scratches head*
There are still at least 4 more books left for this series. As much as I hate to see an end to a beloved series, there is a time for everything. I hope this was just a fluke and we'll be back to the October Daye books that I love with the next one. Unfortunately, this book offered very little for me. It wasn't a total loss because I have developed a connection to the characters. I liked it okay. However, if I skipped it for some reason, I don't think I would have missed anything.

Review: loved it! This book starts right off when last book ends and Seth is pissed thinking he has figured out who his traitor of the Immortal Guardians is. Zach is an "Other" like Seth. We get to learn a little more about the Others in this installment and we get to watch Zach become more human as he falls in love with Lisette. This one made me want Seth to get a book & HEA for him. Oh Sheldon and Tracy - what a hoot!! Can't wait to get to the next in the series.
