Poor Derek. I was just thinking as I read this newest release how much I miss the old Derek. I hope he gets a story of his own (at least a novella) someday and gets some happiness. He's changed so much since this incident.

I thought it was the best one out of the last few. I loved both Naasir and the heroine.

This was the second time trying to read this book. Honestly I probably would have put it down again if I didn't need to finish it for this. I didn't dislike it. I liked the world. I liked Toby. But..... I think it was just the heavy world building. Some UF books/series take me a bit to get into so I will definitely try book two before making any decisions about this series.

I think what he turns out to be was kind of weird. I never saw it coming. I'll be interested to see what you think.
I think Derek and Julie will get together (at least I hope). He's so serious and stoic now. :(

I had a really hard time with this book too. I so wanted to like it but just could not.

I thought the same thing. I have friends that just don't get why I don't like it. I'm almost afraid to mention another series that I don't like that everyone loves...JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. ***running for cover!

I haven't tried that series.
Whilst I love the hillbilly shifters, I've given up on the Brothers - just got too silly, though I like the early ones.I've read the 1st October Daye, and liked it, but haven't been enthused enough to read the rest yet.

I'm pretty sure I'm breaking up with the BDB after this last book. I haven't liked the last few.

I hope Kim is not lurking here since she claimed BDB as a favorite!I did procure a copy of Vision in Silver from the library. I am so glad that today is a paperwork day because I started it at lunch and sorta didn't come back to work for a while. :-)
Fortunately no patients were waiting for me when I got back. Forgot to eat lunch too!
LOL. Well, it must be good. I've got the pb coming in Feb & I've bought the next one in Kindle, which I think comes out in March. So not much waiting.

Haven't started my book yet, though I'm dying to get to it. It's a combination of hubby being off work (rostered day off), I want to read it for read-a-thon, and my lil sis turning 50 tomorrow, though we went out for dinner last night, then they all came back to my place. So I've been busy cleaning :(
Hubby goes back to work tomorrow, so I'll definitely get to it then, with a still fairly sparkling house to boot! :)
Today was my mom's 94th birthday. My sister and I took her to lunch. Tomorrow we are having lunch with my brother and his family. It will continue like this until at least the 20th when we have a big family reunion. We think she deserves more than just one day to celebrate!

It took me forever to start this. First it was due to the amount of pages in the original book (1500). Then I went back and forth about whether I should read this one or the original. Even though I was worried about the amount of pages I had heard, repeatedly, from people who read both, that the original is better. But I've heard so much about the epic-ness of this series I was pretty excited. By the time I actually stated reading this I had high expectations. Imagine my surprise that I was kind of.....bored. I had read
awhile ago and loved it so I was surprised at the lack of world building here. I could only see the society they live in because of reading AM. I wasn't really sure the purpose of their missions in the grand scheme of things. And my biggest issue was Boyd. His speech/talking patterns were so off to me. He sounds like a robot and says things in a way that no one really would. (& I'm still not sure if that's the author's writing style or if it was done on purpose to show his social akwardness). At 30% I asked some GR friends if I should quit. I was underwhelmed. They told me to push on and I did. By 60% I was intrigued. Sin's idea of an appropriate birthday present giving reeled me in. I adored Sin by this point in the book but I still wasn't sure about Boyd. By the time we get to Boyd sitting in a dark apartment with a gun protecting Sin I knew there was no going back. I was totally and completely hooked.
To me the hands down draw of this book is the characterization of Sin and Boyd. They've both had such horrible, brutal lives and to watch the scenes as they dance around each other....a brush of fingers on the other's cheek, the whisper of words by one's ear, the tentative attempts at comfort....was so beautiful. I'm so glad there was no insta-love or rush between them. Poor Sin is like a wild animal and Boyd's putting down scraps to draw him in. It's both heart-breaking and heart-warming to watch.
So the book ends with us heading off to Mexico. Most people pack flip flops and tanning oil. I'm packing alcohol. There's no way the author's are going to let this be a happy ride. I'm sure of it.

Naasir, the really mysterious one of the Seven, really wants his mate. He is yet to find her and can't understand why she is hiding from him.
Raphael gives him a task, to protect the angelic scholar Andromeda (Andi) on her quest to find the sleeping Ancient, Alexander. Jason has heard rumours that Lijuan wants to kill Alexander before he wakes. And it becomes a race to find him first.
Lots of adventures & rescues, and Andi smelling delicious has Naasir wondering if Andi is his mate. But she's taken a vow of celibacy, so he has his doubts.
This was a lovely coming together of two people with major secrets, with Naasir proving to be one of the best hero's of the year, funny, wild, honest, trustworthy, and very, very naughty. Andi was just what he needed, though he is loved by the Seven, and their mates, and Raphael & Elena, he considers them all his family, he wants a mate of his own to share secret games with.
The Cascade is continuing and lots of things are happening to the Cadre and major angels including Bluebell. So I'm very interested to see what happens next.

Meg Corbyn entered the bathroom in the Human Liaison's Office and laid out the items she'd labeled the tools of prophecy: antiseptic ointment, bandages, and the silver folding razor decorated with pretty leaves and flowers on one side of the handle.
Meg has learned to do controlled cuts to speak the prophecies. Merri Lee is learning to document the sessions. Meg NEEDS to cut and does not want to wait for Simon to be present. The vision disturbs Merri Lee enough to report to Vlad. It involves the cassandra sangue that were freed from the Controller.
The freed girls have had a difficult time adjusting to the outside world. After Meg has an uncontrolled cutting, the Others led by Simon see the need to write a guide book of some kind to help all the girls.
The strife between humans and the Others is spiraling out of control. The Human First and Last league is fanning the flames that causes violent episodes.
We learn more about Monty and his daughter, Lizzy in this installment. Lizzy is the center of a huge part of the story line.
I adore this series! I read this book so quickly and now I'm mad at myself because it will be March before the next one is released. The characters feel like old friends. I learn something new about everyone of them in each book. I like that Simon has lessened his view of humans as meat. He proves that he can and does care about the human pack in his life.
I love dear sweet Sam! And quirky little Skippy. Nathan takes his protection of Meg so seriously.
The degree of hate by some humans towards the Others is a very sad statement of where our world is today. There are times that I so desperately want to beg everyone to just get along.
I'm happy to see the growth in Simon and Meg's relationship. I look forward to see where it will take us.
I am eager to see where things will go with the cassandra sangue that can present her visions by drawing rather than cutting.

I have been intrigued about Catullus since he was introduced. Happy he got his own story. Gemma was introduced in Rebel and I thought she was just as awesome as he was. I liked that we saw couples from the other books all make appearances in this one.
There are multiple roadblocks blocks to saving England (and the rest of the world). My compliant was there were so many. One gets figured out and overcome to be promptly replaced by another (and again, again). I admit to enjoying it, at first, but it gets old quickly and made the book drag a little for me.

Review:
Some days my job was harder than others.
This book begins with Kate trying to talk an elderly banshee down from a telephone pole and presents one of my all time favorite statements.
Unfortunately, no matter how well you hide, sooner or later your big secret will bite you in the behind, and you might find yourself standing on a telephone pole, not sure why or how you got there, while the neighborhood pretends not to hear your piercing screeches.
To me this turned out to be a huge foreshadowing of the story. Kate soon discovers that her werewolf friend, Derek has been horribly injured by unknown supes. Some of Curran's pack are hiding a secret trying to find a way to help Derek.
Kate gets drawn into a gladiator type situation known as the Midnight Games that Curran has forbidden his pack to participate in. Kate and security officer, Jim, get involved anyway to save Derek.
I must admit when I read the first book in this series I didn't care for Curran. Big mistake! I love how he has grown as a character. I particularly love how his relationship with Kate is evolving. Kate has family secrets that help pull everything together in the end.
Kate is a smartass with a snarky attitude and I want to "grow up" to be just like her. Maybe without all the bloodshed.
I am eager to start the next book to see where the story goes.
