Series Catch-Up Shelf
Date: 10/8/15
Rating: ★★★★
Anna has been a vampire for nearly a year. She still doesn't want to be one but knows there is no going back. She clings to her humanity as hard as she can, despite having some good friends who are shapeshifters, Culebra and Daniel Frey.
Anna has a new power, detecting pure evil, and is having trouble when she comes across anything really evil. Whether human or other, makes no difference, so is grateful when Lance offers to take her to his mountain getaway for a break. Unfortunately, Underwood, Lance's sire is there and he is evil personified. He is also friends with Warren Williams, Anna's old friend, now frenemy, and this turns out to be a really bad thing.
Ever since she was turned she has been told she is special, the Chosen One. She ignores all such comments, hoping for it all to just go away. Anna has no clue what the Chosen One is, let alone what it does. Daniel, being a Keeper of the Supernatural Knowledge, researches & makes her listen, right before the anniversary of her becoming. Just in time for the ceremony.
I never liked Lance as he just seemed too weak for Anna. And I'm not sure I believe in the villainess Judith Williams as she's too new and goes from not knowing how to feed, to orchestrating vamp politics in a matter of days.
However, I do like this series and am intrigued as to where it is going.

DemonsWow....a look at this shelf shows how painfully behind I am on a bunch of series. I think I'm going with

Charley is pregtastic, Reyes won't leave her side and twelve Hell Hounds have been summoned to get her.
Plus the numerous side cases of Jessica her ex-BFF, a teenage girl who is missing her body, a missing father, and lots of suicide notes and no bodies.
Once again mention is made of how powerful Mr Wong is. Really want to know his story :) And people from the Vatican have been watching her and taking notes, since she was born.
Charley is funny as always and this is the most Reyes we have seen in all the books so far, so that was a huge plus.
Reyes is desperate to keep Charley & the baby, Beep, safe, but Charley is running around everywhere and trying to lose Reyes, to prove she is capable. That part didn't really make sense to me, hence the loss of a star.
The Dealer, Osh, has a more prominent part in this one as well as our regulars, Angel, Rocket, Cookie, Amber & Uncle Bob and even Captain Eckert.
May just have to read the next one really, really soon.

Cheryl, that is always a good sign :D
I finished my book and don't feel that it fits the shelf. There were shifters, vampires, witches, Druids and zombies but not really demons. Im looking through my shelf to read something else.
Cheryl, it doesn't matter, as long as it was on the demons top shelf.Though you can read another one if you want to :)
Oh, I will review it. I just don't feel good about using the demon tag with it. Although it does revolve around a Necromancer. I'm not sure if I consider a necromancer a demon. Some books consider it a talent (ie Anita Blake)

I admit I was a little worried in the last book about the changes that happened in regards to Curran. It seemed like it would just be wrong. So happy to say that it ended up being a great move by the authors imo. This book had the same feel as the first four books imo. I liked the old school fightening/adventure and less Pack politics. Lot's more....something. I'm not sure what I'm trying to say other than I loved this. I laughed out loud more than once. It was full of action. Lot's of great side characters. And Curran.....YUM....he was at his best in this one. Loved him.
This took forever!

This series has definitely had its ups and downs for me. I do NOT like the direction this is going. The main couple in this book, Kane and Josephina (AKA Tink), were just meh. It was hard to root for their relationship. Kane was hard to like. Josephina had some strong moments and at other times, I felt like she was a different character completely. And can I say, yet another female, immortal who is also a virgin. Yeah, she had Reasons, but seriously, really?
I thought it was funny the fae followed the happenings of the LOTU. Gossip. The strength of this series is the relationships and interplay between the characters. I would like to see more interaction with the significant others of the Lords. They are regulated to the background (except in "their" book). Cameo, Torin, and William (that randy bastard), were the highlights for me. I've said it before and I will say it again, Cameo and William both need books ASAP. (Luckily Torin's is next and I will definitely read it, but if I'm disappointed, I will seriously have to consider whether or not to continue with this series. I don't know about the spin-off, but for continuity the next two I will read will be Wicked Nights and Beauty Awakened. If I can get through them. If not, I'll just DNF and read Torin's book. Off the soapbox).
@Rachel....Kane's book for me, while not great, was better than I expected. I thought Paris' before it was really bad. Breaks my heart though that William didn't get a book before the author changed her personal life and her writing. :(

Let us say that the idea for the story is great. A Mortis vampire that has powers that other vamps don't ie holy water and objects have no effect, stabbing through the heart with anything has no effect and fire has no effect. The Mortis vamp is supposedly set to wipe out vamps, which is just silly, but that's the rumour that has been handed down for 20,000 yrs. So all the vamps are crazy scared that the Mortis vamp will get them.
However, the writing is a little stiff for the first half of the book, the H, Lord Lucentino (Luc to Natalie, she's an Aussie after all), realises pretty quick that Nat is different but doesn't quite believe that he has the Mortis right in front of him, despite that, he takes her back to Europe.
Nat, being only 5 days old when Luc meets her, has no clue about vamps but doesn't like the subservient way they treat their servants (younger vamps) or humans either. Which would be typical for an Aussie, and all the little Aussisms were fun throughout the book.
There was a lot to like in this book except for the major cliffhanger after the major battle, so much so that I had to have the next book right then and there. Definitely continuing with the series.

Review:
I hung from the ceiling of my bedroom, my arm muscles trembling under the strain of holding me up and the twenty-five pound sack of potatoes tied to my waist.
It has been one month since Rylee last saw Liam. He is still trying to come to terms with the changes in his life. Rylee continues to train and keeps her body in top shape for recovering children and fighting demons. Milly is being a huge pain in the butt! Her betrayal of Rylee is shown full force in this installment. Agent Valley, Liam's boss from the FBI, tasks Rylee to find children in England that have been taken over the last 20 plus years. As an added incentive, he announces that there is a Tracker in England. Rylee is intrigued as she has believed that she is the only one. The other Tracker is dying and she must leave immediately if she wants to learn from him. Of course Alex, my favorite character, goes with her to help her Track the kids.
This portion of the series is rather sad rather quickly into the story. Rylee's losses are huge. Alex is insightful in a childlike way. The flight to England is stressful as Rylee's power tends to make things stop functioning. Not the best thing when flying over an ocean.
New characters are introduced as Rylee meets Jack Feen, the English Tracker and Will, a feline shifting officer with Interpol. As Jack has Rylee open up to the missing children she is stunned to discover that she can feel her sister Berget. Long thought to have died over ten years ago, Berget is happy and safe. Rylee's first thought is to track her rather than the lost children. Jack convinces her to go after whoever is stealing the terminally ill kids first.
A new favorite is introduced. Pamela is a powerful witch Rylee rescues. She is also 13. And so Rylee's ragtag group grows.
Liam was not as present in this book. Milly continues to show her pure evil by imprisoning him with a spell. I am anxious to read the next book to see where the storyline is going. I look forward to watching Pamela grow into her powers. Her attempts to thwart the child stealing demon/necromancer show promise.
A good solid read that makes me want more!
Geez Sandra, you're a reading machine. I can't believe you already finished this week's book.I got an ARC of the new Guild Hunter *squee* so I of course had to do that before anything else.
